I just bought a "new to me" model 19. 4 inch barrel. It is a really really nice little revolver. The cylinder has a slight movement (Left to right, not back and forth) when it is not locked AND when the hammer is locked back. Only slighty mind you but still noticeable. I have no doubt that it will eventually become an issue. I have been told 2 things. It is either the lock underneath the cylinder or a part called the hand. That is on the frame behind the cylinder. Any ideas? Or is it both? How much to fix? Is it just springs or should get a hand and a spring a set? Are any of you Smith and Wesson experts?
Oh and Hi everyone. My name is nitekrawler. I came by the name in the military. I used to drink on occasion and would end up having to crawl back to the bunk well after the hours of good taste. |

Put slight pressure (finger drag) on the cylinder while you cock it. If the cylinder will turn some more and you hear a click AFTER you cock it, the hand may be worn. It may happen on just one or all. It's no big thing to fix but you have to disassemble the revolver. The hands are $13 or so from Brownells, not including shipping.
I'll help you put one in if it needs it. But you need to check endshake as well. That is how much the cylinder will backwards and forwards in the frame. I'll help you put a hand in it if you need too. We're going to put a hammer in a S&W for patrickcudd someday soon. Maybe we could do it then. |
Oh shit, who is throwing the crap now, probably slinging it more than likely
Welcome new guy. I will give you a new 100 dollar bill sight unseen for that revolver you are talking about as long as it is a S&W model 19 blue, 4" brl and in 95+%. I know of a guy that had one not too long ago but I did not have the scratch to get it. |
