Alright M14 Gurus. Tell me about ordering a replacement stock for my Polytech Rifle and Which stock do you recommend. I want wood! None of that synthetic crap. Walnut or Birch? Metal or No Metal? Is Fulton Armory the only game in town or are there others out there? Thanks in advance.

Much cheaper than Fulton Armory but service is hit or miss. I have two M1As and three extra stocks. One walnut, one synthetic, one red birch. Getting extra parts isn't going to be cheap for those who are getting into M1As at this late date. |

It may depend on the rifle itself.
I tried a couple GI fibreglass stocks on my first Poly, and it didn't like them. It does like GI walnut though. The second Poly M14 I plugged into a fibreglass stock and it shoots great with it. The main thing about putting a GI stock on a Chinese M14 is the stocks front selector cut. It's too wide, and will allow the pin that latches the recoil spring guide in place to shift out of place. A simple wood or plastic shim can be glued in, or you can fabricate some pieces and fill in all the stocks selector cuts. I used scrap walnut to do my first Poly's stock. The GI fibreglass stock I have on the other Poly came with already filled selector cuts. I've had no experience ordering from Freds, but have heard he's slow to ship lately. He has apparently downsized a bit, and takes some time to get the merchandise out the door. You really need a time machine to get quality USGI stocks......Numerich Arms/GunParts Corp used to sell walnut stocks new in the wrap for $19.

| Fred is on his way out, stay away from him. The Wannamacker show will have a lot of stocks. What do you have against the synthetix\c stocks? They are more durable than the wood. Of course you got to see my M1A with the walnut stock. I shot it the next day with the GI synthetic stock and it was awesome too. As far as a ct out, not that big of a deal. On the Chinese guns, the pin can pe pulled or removed and a longer one installed. Go for it. |

If your Poly is like mine(and the pics look identical), then the gun wears a Chinese 'monkey wood' stock. Mine was accurate in the Chinese wood too. However the Chinese mystery wood is soft, and the gun will eventually work loose, losing the trigger group's clamping pressure. Then the rifle will lose accuracy! It use to be an easy deal to find GI wood....Walnut, Birch, and fibreglass(2 styles) at gun shows. Numerich Arms had new walnut GI stocks in the wrap for $19. You could find a pretty wood stock...take it home...plug it onto the gun, and shoot. If it didn't meet your accuracy specs....put it in another stock until the rifle shot well. Thats all I've ever done to 'accurize' my Poly's.....Just swap stocks around until the rifle finds one it likes. Stocks used to be dirt cheap! |

Its a sad thing, if true Like Dan said, Its expensive to get into M-14s/M1As today. Not gonna get any cheaper either. |

He may or may not ship it. Last order I made he ignored. It's a hit or miss thing with him if receive your order or not. |

Should I take the plunge and buy a fiberglass stock? Walnut? Birch? Or shoot until a stock is necessary? I think Sumo has an extra fiberglass laying around somewhere. I may have to holler at him and try it before I buy it. |
