Next year my wife and I will be moving to your great state, yeah I know your all full up but don't let my state fool ya
I'm originally from AL, anyway my oldest daughter will be going to ORU next year so if there is anything you guys can tell me about Tulsa and the surrounding area that would be great. Work wise I will be opening my own PDR shop, I should do good there because you get hail damage and that's what I do fix dents and dings on cars. Please tell me there are some good gun shops and ranges in the area. |

Best places to live around here are outside of Tulsa. Bixby, Jenks, Glenpool, Broken Arrow, or Owasso. South Tulsa (generally south of 71st from Riverside to hwy 169) is ok but too busy and too much traffic for me. West Tulsa (west of hwy 75) is marginal some meth labs and such Midtown (generally between 71st and 11th and from Riverside to Sheridan) is older homes, liberals , and coffee shops East Tulsa (between 41st and Admiral from hwy 169 to 145th E) is a hispanic/asian area and has some drug related crime, badass mexican food places though North Tulsa (anywhere north of Admiral) is a war zone, do not go unarmed and get out before dark unless you have two vehicles and rifles. Several gun shops around: Oklahoma Police Supply Dong's Guns Sports World Probably some others too but that's the only places I've been or had recommended to me Ranges: Happy Hollow out by Sapulpa (outdoor) Tulsa Firearms (indoor) Red Castle Gun Club up by Sand Springs is pretty good I've heard. We also have US Shooting Academy for gun fighting courses Wanenmachers Tulsa Arm's show comes through in April and November, worlds largest gun show. IMO Tulsa's a pretty good place to live, nice people, plenty to do here, low cost of living etc |

I grew up there and graduated from Bixby ( a long time ago ) then joined the Navy I came back for a few years until the company I worked for got bought and then moved out of state. I have since moved on with my life and have only been back a few times since. Bixby and Jenks used to be completely separate communities, but it looked like everything was consumed by Tulsa the last time I was there. But at least you now have casinos. I still have family living there. Some n Sand Springs and others on the North side, but they never mentioned it being a "war zone". Anyway, just curious. I always loved Tulsa. It is ( or was ) a really good town and a pretty good place to raise a family in my opinion. My only negative observation ( again, based on spotty reports and a few visits) is that most of the companies who made Tulsa eventually moved away and took the jobs with them. One question. Do most of the city streets and roads still suck? |

If so, this area is in Jenks school district which very good. Avoid Tulsa Public like the plague. Ok gun shops, but we have LOTS of gun shows here. |

I would like some land I don't think I will live in town. |

BM3, I am an ORU Alum. Great School.
You mentioned that you are looking for land, how much acreage, does it need a house already on it or are you looking to build? I know where there are a few tracts of land with no buildings on them, they are fairly well wooded, but open at the same time. I don't think it would take clearing to get them situated so that you could build. These tracts are west of Sand Springs and about a 25-30 minute drive to ORU. Regarding gun ranges, there is one that nobody hardly ever mentions and that is Sand Springs Sportsman Club. It's a members only range, with new membership typically opening to new member application in February or March. I'd be more than happy to host you if you would like to look around. Any other questions feel free to ask. J |

Do most of the city streets and roads still suck? Tulsa is getting close to setting a new homicide record this year...68, record is 70. 99% of them occurred in the questionable areas I mentioned and gang/drug related. It still is a great place to raise a family just avoid Tulsa Public Schools (as the other guy mentioned above) Most people here are good solid people. Bixby and Jenks are really growing together south of the river lots of neighborhoods between the two now. South tulsa has grown right up to those two towns, can't really tell where one stops and the other starts. The roads in Tulsa are pretty bad but supposedly lots of programs and money are getting started up to fix them. The suburbs are ok and I-44 and the IDL around downtown are being rebuilt completely so they'll eventually be good as well. |

The land prices are much cheaper west of Tulsa. You also have Lake Keystone and public hunting areas. |

Welcome to the state. I think it's a great place to raise a family.
I had a sister in law that went to ORU and there are alot of GOOD churches in the Tulsa area. Lots of places to buy, trade, sell and shoot your guns and your not restricted to certain evil features or a certain amount of round magazines. I think the cost of living is cheap and Tulsa is fairly easy to get around and it doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes to get across town. There's a couple of nice ranges East of Broken Arrow and a free Public Hunting land range in Wagoner. if you come out to Broken Arrow, give me a shout. mp |

How big of a boat and why ? I had a boat. That's what happened to all of my guns. I lost them in that same boating accident that sank my boat. Seriously though, flood plain? Don't let that scare you. The last time there was any major flooding in Bixby was what...1984? Same year flooding caused problems for Tulsa and other areas around here? I've seen some flooding events around here first hand and there are only certain areas that are at risk for flooding. A quick talk would tell you what areas you might want to avoid. There has been a considerable amount of money invested in mitigating those flooding issues in the past few years. |

I too live west of Keystone...Mannford schools. The commute is not bad. I drive all the way to Oil Capitol gun club to shoot IDPA and they also do a defensive rifle match that is a lot of fun. It would be a lot better if some folks would salt the road in front of thier gate! J/K
