Hey All,
I live in NW OKC, sometimes....well maybe more like 3x a week, I take Penn and use NW 150th to cut over to May. On NW 150th(between Penn and May) everytime I'm on it, I see someone pulled over. I think people forget, and it's a smooth road.......and they go over the limit. It's 40 MPH, and I see lots of Corvettes, new Camaros, quite a few Lexus/Mecedes, and lots of other makes. Mainly it's a black and white cruiser, but lately it's been a silver Crown Victoria....unmarked. Just a heads up!!! Dave |
|
Recently they lowered the speed limits around there. I have seen the police officer you speak of there and also on May ave around 178th to Danforth. He likes to sit there when his shifit is drawing to the end. He lives right by there. I bet there is a reason he is in different cars from time to time too. Probably came flying down one of the residental streets early one morning and hammered his marked car up under a truck. So he has to use the unmarked until his car gets fixed. Hell it may be fixed by now as I have seen a black and white parked out there real recently. But that one could belong to his room mate or another officer that lives up around those parts.
. . . Oops I may have said to much. Lets see if I get an IM . . . .

Speed Trap????
Let's see, one mile south on Memorial, tons of businesses, tons of traffic..speed limit....45 One mile north on 164th, several neighborhood entrances, crappy road, speed limit....50 Two mile north on 178th (2nd), several neighborhood entrances, speed limit...45 The street in question (150th).....TWO neighborhood entrances, new road, speed limit...40 Speed trap????? You decide! But lets give it up to the Hero officer! He's risking his life by protcting and serving the public by writing those tickets for 10 mph over on this street!!!! |

I'm a firm believer that speed traps do not exist. Alot of drivers are just not paying attention to what they are doing. They are driving around on their cellphones or with their heads up their asses. That is the real problem. I once read that Jeff Cooper taught that all Gunsite graduates that received tickets should pay them. His point was that you should be able to avoid getting them if you are paying attention (not in Condition White). |

Big Cabin, OK Coopertown really screwed the pooch. Coopertown, TN And Missouri has introduced variable speed limit signs. You can pay attention all you want, but if the sign changes after you've passed it, I guess you're SOL. Missouri I-270 ETA: I'm not excusing drivers on phones or texting or getting a hummer, those jackasses try to kill me every time I get on my bike. |

Funny thing about speed traps......if you don't speed, there's no trap. USSA-1 Wrong. The officer can say you were speeding say near an accident, too close to a pedestrian, too fast for road conditions, etc and make the ticket stick. Welcome to OK. ![]() While this is true. The only run in I have had so far with getting pulled over in OK was from a Deputy and I flat out told him I had no idea what the speed limit was, which was quite true as I was out in BFE house hunting at the time, he was very professional and nice, let me go and told me where the better areas were to look for a good neighborhood. It was nice of him. Typical OK and Texas southern hospitality. I do however find that since I have gotten back stateside I am a much more alert driver. Sad thing is 90% of the others drivers I see out there have their heads wedged way up thier ass and seem to be texting on their cells more than ever. |

hey I got stopped for that late last year, just got off work around midnight driving 50mph in and 50mph zone but it was foggy as hell, no ticket, just a verbal.
That was most likely just the officer checking to see if you were DUI. Despite what others may say, a LEO can't just arbitrarily stop you. He has to have some articulable suspicion or a violation of law, but finding a violation is not real difficult. I did it thousands of times when I was looking for drugs or illegal weapons. If you don't find anything you just give them a warning and send them on their way. Wrong. The officer can say you were speeding say near an accident, too close to a pedestrian, too fast for road conditions, etc and make the ticket stick.
Maybe so, but those aren't speeding traps. They are opinion violations and the Judges are the ones who make them stick. The LEO only puts it the violation in the Judicial system. USSA-1 |
claremore now thats a speed trap.... even if ya don`t speed ya still get pulled over,I once got pulled over twice in 30mins,i did nothing wrong,no ticket, but the look of the trooper was priceless when I said this is the third time I`ve been traffic stopped in a HOUR

USSA-1 They are revenue traps. If a police officer wants to write you a ticket in Oklahoma, good luck fighting it in court. If you want to appeal it, you'll pay more for the transciptionist than you would for the ticket. I once saw a guy in court with a broken ankle. He was on his son's motorcycle and hit a pothole in front of his driveway. Two police officers came and wrote him a ticket for excessive speed while he was in the emergency room. He came with an attorney and it was obvious that he couldn't be excessively speeding just pulling out of his driveway. But the judge ruled in favor of the police officers who gave each other a high five in the court room. It was one of the most eye opening things I've ever seen in the judicial systme. It was so ridiculous as to be hysterical. That judge didn't give a damn - he was there to make money for the city. |

hell norman's been like that for the last several years, used to be able to get off with just probation, nowdays even if you go to court you pay the fine, points go on your insurance, plus you pay court cost,
the last time I got a ticket I asked for a court date, two months later they called and said if I would pay the fine before my court date that the ticket wouldn't show up on my insurance, so I paid it, the only reason I asked for court date was to give me time to raise funds for the fine. norman also increased it's fines up into unholy territory, and if you receive three moving violations in a 12 month period, the base fine automatically triples |
| I've been through Big Cabin a hundred times. If you are paying attention to the speed limit signs, like you should, you will never get a ticket there. There is no trickery in play here. State fines are very high, and I don't write anything for speed that is under 15 MPH over the limit. There are alot of idiots driving around out there in our great state. I know this because I see them every night. They do ignorant shit right in front of a marked unit. |

Are you a Highway Patrolman in that area? If so, I might have a beef! What happened there is why I have no respect for LEO's anymore. My wife, who is a pretty, petite, blonde woman in a new vehicle was lost as hell coming from Grand Lake to OKC, and got lost due to construction in that area. She stopped to ask directions from a HiPo on the side of the road, and that worthless piece of shit ripped her a new one for approaching a cop. He never did give her directions. She was in tears when she finally got ahold of me. I'd like to talk to that little pussy and remind him of what cops should be there to do! It is truely sad that LEO's have morphed into ticket and report writers, instead of remembering what their mandate is....to protect and serve! |

You guys really have to be careful in Nichols Hills. There is a cop on a motorcycle that is really bad news, has a bad attitude, and is plain ugly. I think I know that guy....he made me stay in his cruiser while he aked a bunch of questions! I also know the chief there....great guy! |
OMG don`t get me started on stupidTROOPERS,back when I was SO,I was on my way home after ROUGH nightshift, and the prick wrote me a ticket for 68 in a 65,and I was IN UNIFORM.... not only did it piss off the sheriff, but most of the dept, and Half the local PD wanted to kick his ass....

No, I work up here in Ottawa County for the Sheriff. We are here to serve the citizens of the county, as well as those that are traveling through, or visiting. Come on vacation, leave on probation. Just kidding. Quoted:

And there's really no point arguing with what's done and decided. Big Cabin got their hand slapped for not knowing the law, and from the way things look, the speed limits were in place not to prevent speeding but to assist in revenue generation. ETA: I wasted post 666 on this?! |
| Big Cabin was simply relying too much on Traffic fine revenue to fund other services. They were writing too many tickets to accomplish this. Its not about the speed limit, or the placement of speed limit signs, etc. Big Cabin is not a speed trap. You don't need speed traps to nail motorists that are not paying attention to traffic signs because they are on the goddamn phone, or texting someone. |

You're right, Big Cabin isn't a speedtrap....anymore. "not paying attention to traffic signs because they are on the goddamn phone, or texting someone" = conjecture. There are any number of reasons someone might miss a traffic sign. However, since you personally never change the radio station, check your gas gauge, speedometer, mirrors, adjust the A/C or heat, or drive in liimited-visibility conditions, I'm sure you've never missed a single traffic sign. |
|
I remember a permanent speed trap set up on a small town near Collinsville and Tulsa back in the 70s. There was a radar unit mounted on the police station pointed down the main street, a state highway that got lots of traffic. And a cop at a desk at the window with a squad car by the door.
You can take this to the bank. Cities and local gov'ts will be giving a lot more tickets for revenue purposes because of a dwindling tax base in this recession. And their thoughts are: Let the assholes and guilty pay for our jobs with fines from the courts. The general public won't care. It was that way during the Depression when my grandfather was a police officer. It was that way when my uncle was a state trooper. It's that way now where my cousin is a warrant officer for a municipality south OKC. If you do something wrong, they are going to break it off in your ass. Fines are not $20 anymore. They are $200 and up for traffic fines. And gov't likes to take money from citizens.

I think Dan is right on to some extent. As budgets get smaller there will be less patrol money "fuel, maintenance, ect... to go around" so there will be more sitting and watching. Which will turn into more traffic tickets. Cities are always looking for ways to increase thier revenue. This whole speeding thing is setup to allow you to drive as fast as your wallet will let you anyway. I haven't paid much attention to the signs lately but they were posted along the interstate that had the pricing per rate of speed. Now take Texas for example, I don't recall if they got this passed but they wanted to be able to purchase something like a 3 pack of get me out of speeding ticket vouchers. Like saying I know I'm going to be speeding so I will pay in advance. Not much different then the turnpike pass. You know that at some time you will be using it so you pay it in advance so you don't have to slow down and stop when the state robs collects there toll for roads that should be free for us to drive on now. Anyway that's another subject al together. |
