I went to the sheriffs office to get fingerprinted and HAND THEM MONEY, and they said they only do that on Wednesdays. I said fine, then they said the first opening was 1.5 months away.

Can they do that? That seems ridiculous. 1.5 months to get fingerprinted.

Can you go to another county to get printed?

UPDATE....

Went back to reschedule an appointment, get this....2 month wait. I was furious. I just left. Strangely enough I am selling my pickup and the guy that came and looked at it and bought it was a reserve deputy for garfield county.

So I started digging on him (after he bought it....lol) and he is getting his ccw and the bastards are making him wait 2 months.

I am going into action on this and I was wondering if we had a local NRA rep, or GOA rep. I believe they are throttling the number of ccw holders in the county by doing this.

Anyone recommend what other actions I should take? Or should I drop it, and use a friends address in another county and go to that sheriff for sign off??

I don't know if they can or not.....BUT...That is sorry as hell.  I would call OSBI and see if there is an alternative route.  If nothing else you can at least let them know this is going on.

It seems to be no...  (and yes, I dicked up the quote function)

From SDA

Take the completed application, photographs, required fees, and the blank finger print cards found in the application packet to the Sheriff’s Office in the county where he or she resides.
AND

NOTICE:
The County Sheriff’s office has 14 days to complete a local background check from the time the Initial Application is submitted.  The application is forwarded to the OSBI AFTER the local search is complete.
Per Oklahoma State Statue, the OSBI has 90 days to process an application from the day all required information is received by the OSBI.  This includes a good set of fingerprint cards.

If it has been more than 115 days since the application was submitted to the County Sheriff’s Office and you would like to know the status of your application please e-mail your request to the OSBI by clicking the link below.

That sucks and of course the local won't start until prints are taken. It already takes forever to get it through the OSBI.  I'm guessing there's an anti-2A sheriff in Garfield.

That sucks big time.  I was the First one in Garfield county to get printed in 1996 for a cwl . I think you have to play there game but I would call osbi to before sure. I just love how OSBI  quit sending out packets  and now you have to print them online. Good luck talking to some one at OSBI. they would not even return my call for a simple Question.

I've never had issues getting them on the phone. After county screwed up my prints and caused a two month delay, I resubmitted through the sheriff's office and then drove to OSBI HQ to have my prints taken digitally to eliminate ANY excuses.  Everyone there was very nice, polite, and I was in and out in twenty minutes.

And here's the cool thing... I'm a nobody.  Not a cop, DA, rich celebrity, or sport star.

The OSBI rejected both sets of prints I sent them, the second time they sent me a letter saying that if the prints failed muster a third time they would reject my application and I would lose my application fee!  I called them and finally went to them to get the prints done, even then I was printed multiple times before they got the prints they wanted.  They didn't have the print scanner back then, but at least they could see what print they didn't like and could keep printing that finger till they got it right.

I was one of the first five instructors in the state. Never had a problem with getting finger printed by the OK County Sheriff's office.
The only problem I had was at the County Jail itself.  They had me remove my pocket contents, belt, and shoes and step into a corridor. They told me everyone had to do it. I stepped into the corridor and they locked it, held me for around 20 minutes with no explanation.
They ran a check to see if I had any warrants on me.
The fingerprints turned out fine though.

Ah, a victim of the ol' "Sallyport Scan" I see.

Also, for the gentleman who said something above about the OSBI not sending out concealed carry packets, that is simply not true. You can email them and request a packet to be mailed to you, free of charge, at any time. Right now they are taking about 2 weeks to get out.

I've fingerprinted people at a municipal police department that I worked for in the past for concealed handgun permits and we never had anyone come back to us and say that their prints weren't accepted. Our policy was we were there to serve the public, even if they didn't reside in our city, we would still help them out. Several people had problems with fingerprints from other agencies. Fingerprinting is not hard, even if you have to do with the old tube of ink and roller.

A friend who is an investigator for the AG and retired state police officer did my son's fingerprints for his weapon permit.
The OSBI told my son they weren't good enough.
Big mistake!

We went to the OK county sheriff at Quail Springs and it was super easy and the deputy was really friendly.  I was dreading going down town so when they told us we could use the mall stations i was happy.

I called and left my address in dec and  I never got a packet to this day. I printed it myself. I called and ask a question about how they want the pics pasted on the paper they took over 2 weeks to return my call not impressed. I lost most of my repect for the OSBI when they steped over the line after they sent letters to the owners of a Glock 40 for testing. This is my TAX dollars at work

I've found that with almost all government agencies, one has to be persistent to get results. Sometimes one or more follow up calls are in order if you don't hear from someone in a couple of days. However, if you printed it off and resolved the issue yourself then I guess that's a good thing. I've never heard of a certain way to paste pics. I've always gone to the post office, or Walgreens or something, had 2 passport photos taken, and just sent those in to the state in the little booklet thing they put your photos in. Never had a problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you referring to the homicide investigation near Weleetka of two juvenile females when you mention testing letters in reference to a Glock 40? I participated in part of that investigation. I'd be interested to hear how you feel OSBI stepped over the line.

Are you an ORA/NRA/GOA member? Might be easier to just drive to OKC and get printed there.

County shows 300 percent surge in conceal and carry gun permits
By Robert Barron, Staff Writer

Applications for conceal and carry gun permits have risen more than 300 percent since Jan. 1 in Garfield County, Sheriff Bill Winchester said.
