Started yesterday. Seems like it is going to be a good experience. I expected it to be more military like, but it is fairly laid back. I've been to three academies since 1987 and this one feels like it will be the best at this point. Anyone else been to the new facility in Ada?

That's great.  I didn't get to go to the new CLEET in Ada but I hear its a great place.  The Academy is more focused on academics rather the military style.  Who are you working for?

I hated my time there.  The people there are great.  I think they either need to make it military style or make it a college type environment.   I did learn a lot while I was there, just didn't have much fun doing it.  I forgot to add that according to my brother, I may have a small problem with authority.

Hint,  stay on campus as much as possible, and drink a lot of water.  Lots and lots of water.  You will be glad when DT rolls around.

I know what CLEET is, but what is it in context of this thread?  I took it to mean classes at the local Comm College.

Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training. It is the state certification academy for Peace Officers. There is another member of my dept. here that started about six weeks ago, so I have been getting info from him daily on what to expect. We work for the Ottawa County Sheriff.  There are officers here from all over the state, 58 in my class and I think 48 in his.

ahhh....memories...

when my academy was goin on it was mid summer, and we had to stay at East Central University since the dorms were all moldy....

HOT HOT HOT on the range and since we were doin half dt and half firearms for two weeks it took its toll for sure...

now i hear its dt solid for a week and solid firearms...whew....god bless...and now its like 15 weeks or something like that........mine was only 9....had 126 students...i miss the academy....sort of....

You are going to enjoy The senoir firearms instructor.......he is a trip....killed more men than smallpox they say.

I could barely lift my gun on some of those days. The half dt days sucked. My call was there for 12 weeks, I believe the next class was going to be 14.

i love dt and firearms though....would do it all again, in a heart beat.

would like to see more striking and standup fighting tactics though....as well as incorporating the two...  like pistol strikes and such...

oh well looks like i am gonna have to find some addition training somewheres else.

McKelvey was actually helping with our class (not at Ada though).  Not sure if he is still doing Ada's academy though, he is working at Tulsa County Courthouse.

He started with Tulsa County in August.

If you want to see him, he will be at Woodland Hills Mall on black-friday (day after Thanksgiving) for security.

We did pepper spray today.... seven hours later, and I am still burning.
