OK, we've had some multiple mentions of SDA in the forum lately. It made me think of one of my SDA students from years ago. She lived alone, was fairly attractive in her mid 20s. She was sub par on her shooting with a 38 Colt Detective she used in the class. So as part of my instruction, I gave her and others several range sessions trying to improve their marksmanship at no cost other than paying for the indoor range at Bobs. She got fairly decent. Her mother was a stone cold, center of the head shooter every time she pulled the trigger. So there was some mother/daughter competition there. Her improvement wasn't all do to my instruction as much as trying to keep up with Mom. I had taught avoidance as much as possible in my SDA classes. "Better to use your feet than your trigger finger if possible." was the the theme. She took it to heart too well, I hate to say. ![]() She had someone break into her home late one night. She ran to the bathroom with her portable phone and Colt. The scum sucker was trying to get in the door while she was on the phone to 9/11. He stopped rattling the door, then started beating on it. This went on for a little while. So instead of shooting the SOB through the door, she remembered my "lesson" She fell out of the window with the Colt and the phone and broke her ankle. About that time, the police show up and handcuff her, pick up the Colt, and go into the house. By that time, the scum sucker had disappeared. The scum sucker escaped to probably do the same thing again. She ended up hooked up by the police briefly, with a broken ankle and doctor bills. It kind of tore me up for awhile as to whether it had the best outcome. She didn't take a human life and didn't have to deal with the pychological difficulties that come along with that. And she didn't have blood and/or guts to clean up in her home. Or the down side, a low life got away and she doesn't have the best opinion of the police anymore. She did tell me next time in the exact same situation, she'd shoot. |
