Alright, first time posting in the Hometown section and I need to get a couple of things cleared out of the way. If the ammunition is steel core does that make it illegal within in the State of Oklahoma? I've been told that it is legal therefore I never looked into the State laws. However, after the reading the 3 links below, I would like to get a second opinion on this. If you are not carrying armor piercing ammo to shoot someone, don't worry about it in Oklahoma. If you have the steel cookie cutter rounds ro teflon bullets in your handgun and an LEO finds it in the course of a stop, you might or might not go to jail. It would all depend on if he recognized them or not. And many don't. As far as having the green tipped 5.56 and shooting it, people here do it all the time. |

So if a LEO wanted to be a dick and saw green-tipped 5.56, could they do anything about it? I might also expand this to tracer rounds as well. In 2004 I had some confiscated by Nowata Deputies when I was in that county shooting, they claimed the rounds were illegal. I know some might classify them as a "fire-hazard" but they still took the ammunition on the pretense of it being restricted. I would just like to cover all of my bases, you know, just in case shit happens. Plus I got into a short debate with a co-worker this morning. He's a former cop from Kalifornia and he swore up and down that AP ammo was military property and illegal. |
Reading that, I don't believe the SS109 projectile even qualifies as a "restricted bullet." It would have to meet both criteria to qualify. I actually don't think it meets either. It is my understanding that SS109 is only roughly 20% steel and 80% lead, and I'm not sure if the green paint on the tip counts as a "fluorocarbon coating." I believe it is simply green paint used in order to identify the type of round, not a coating such as Teflon or molybdenum disulfide. This goofy piece of legislation appears to be targeting the mythical 'cop-killer' bullet. |
Why would they be into your ammo unless they were wanting to take it in the first place? I learned a long time ago if the police confiscate something of yours and don't arrest you or write you a ticket, they are going to use it for themselves. I saw an OKC cop at a gun show back in the Clnton years try to confiscate some hi cap mags unded the pretense of the AWB bill. It was pure bullshit and theft at one time. But as far as them taking green tips or orange tips, you can't do anything but scream bloody murder about it. Then they'll arrest you for something else. But they are not illegal to possess. Just illegal to shoot someone with them.

I've only got a broken 22 rifle and a single shot 410. You're welcome to confiscate the 5 dented 22 shells that didn't go off and the 23 rounds of 410 shells I have. I had a boating accident.

Have you ever heard of the evil "cop killer" Teflon bullets? THAT is what they are talking about. You don't have to worry about having Teflon coated bullets since they were only made for a couple of years (about 25-30 years ago) and were never sold to the public. You have a much better chance of winning the lottery than find one of those Teflon coated bullets. |
Not me. If I ever become a cop I was thinking of Dan being on the business end of a Taser or maybe a "wood shampoo"
