Bucks have really hard steel and are bad about getting nicked on the edge. I don't know how it will work on a possum (you do eat possum, don't you?) but on deer, they knick real easily against bone.
If you want really good steel in a USA made knife, get a Camillus. Not to hard - won't knick - and not too soft, holds an edge really well.
I've got a Remington folder, with a saw blade/gut hook and regular blade that has skinned everything from elk to turkey. It's made by Camillus and is my most prized knife. My son, Matt, carries one just like mine. It hasn't done as many deer, but has done quite a few.
Here's my favorite 3 folders.
A Benchmade CQC7, a Boker, and that Remington/Camillus knife that has worked damn good for me for over 15 years. Also, that Diamond EZ Lap is one good tool to sharpen a knife.

Camillus went out of business????? Shit!
I do like Bucks, I've had a 110 forever. I just got tired of nicking the blade. I used to skin back 750 mcm making up services using that Buck. I've even used it for opening oil cans back in the day when oil came in cans!
I've probably got over 50 knives, folders, autos, fixed blades, etc. Everything from a real Filipino balisong with stag horn grips, steel from a car spring, to a custom made auto.
Now I carry a little Case pen knife. Got tired of too many questions of why I carried a big folder.

hell man, I've only got three good folders, a gerber, old timer and an old boy scout bone handled camilus with the tip broke off I got from my uncle,

the rest of my knifes are fixed blades, they're an assortment of camulus, buck, old timer, marbles and some japanese survival type I got years ago, it was harder than hell to sharpen, but once I got it sharpened, it'd shave hair and it keeps an edge well.

I've switched to Busse for my hunting chores.  They use INFI steel, and it really holds an edge.

I'm thinking more like people jumping outta the boat and trying to swim to shore carrying more log chain and cider blocks than they could safely swim very far with.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Even though he worships the ground I walk on, I wouldn't get in his boat if I saw concrete blocks and baling wire anywhere nearby.
