Hey Folks- As indicated in an earlier thread, I'll be calling Oklahoma home at the end of the month.....While I was there looking for a house, I stopped by the Bass Pro Shop in OKC. One thing I noticed was the stuffed possums hanging all over the place. Are these things that common there?.....additionally, saw a lot of dead armadillos on the sides of the roads. Can you hunt these things? |

hell opossums not only look like large rats, but they're just as common, you can walk right up on one and it won't run away so there wouldn't be much skill involved in hunting one, you'll find most of them walking in the middle of roads; armadillos are like armor coated possums, me and my oldest daughter chased one up the sidewalk on main street norman serveral years back and it wouldn't even try and hide, we'd catch up to it and it'd take off running again until it forgot we were chasing it and then it'd stop and wait till we caught up again; I haven't ever ate either, so I couldn't tell you how they taste, but the way the beverly hillbilly's spoke, they're damn good eating |
don't worry when you get in them you will know

Possums taste really wild unless you throw them in a 55 gallon drum and feed them corn for a couple of weeks. They will still taste wild and be greasy but not as bad as a fresh kill. Armadillos taste like white pork. It's been a long time since I had any but it's not bad as far as I remember. Chiggers are all over OKlahoma. Anytime you step into grass over your ankles, you have a chance of getting them. Get some insect repellent and keep it in your vehicle. This year is gonna be bad for ticks too. We have the big dog ticks and the little seed ticks - the ones that cause Lymes disease. Use the insect repellent on your ankles and feet, belt line, arms, neck and shoulders, and your head. |
3 words. Deep woods Off. Soak your boots and lower pants legs in it. Also anywhere skin transisitions to clothing. like your beltline, end of sleeves, around the neck. If you get them, listen to Nden. Bleach cut with water. |
