| Saw my first hot doe of the year yesterday. She ran across a hay field with 3 bucks hot on her trail. I watched them run circles just out of bow range all morning. I stuck a doe which was later determined to be a huge buck with no antlers. He dressed at 160 with 1.75" wide horns that didn't barely rose above the hairline. They were hollow inside and had sticker points all over the base. I'm guessing he was a really old deer that had stunted antler growth. |

Antlerless bucks seem to be pretty common in that area. I've seen two killed in the last couple of years. One on Old Bud's place, one east a little ways. Also found two scrapes over two weeks ago. But they are north of Crescent a ways. And we have been seeing does with bucks for over 3 weeks, both in Crescent and here in north OK County. But if the bucks were circling the doe, she must have been one hot momma. |
| Went this morning in the 50mph gusts and saw two nice 8 points chasing a hot doe. They ran right under my stand and circled back. I grunted, they didn't stop, I grunted louder, they didn't stop, I yelled, they didn't even think about stopping. All they wanted was that hot doe. I saaw the two deer three seperate times and couldn't get a clean shot. I saw a huge deer right next to the truck on the way out. Just my luck. I should have sat in the truck! |
It will be near a full moon this weekend. Unless the bucks are way overpopulated and moving, it may be pretty slim pickin's, especially if the wind blows over 15 mph. Thanks for the good luck wish. But I've found skill and superior woodcraft have enabled me to take a deer almost any time I want. That and several corn feeders!
