I thought I remembered reading somewhere about a 5 acre minimum to hunt. Can't remember if that included target shooting as well. Also can't find a source now so there is that...

Never seen an acreage minimum set in PW, but there is a 100yards from roads and dwellings rule.  With five acres, I can just barely meet this, but suppressors and 2A supporting neighbors are your friends

Looks like a 20 acre minimum in Fairfax County, subject to additional restrictions contained in Chapter 6 of the Fairfax County Code AND only in those areas allowable per Fairfax County Code Appendix J.  The definition of "Parcel of Land" from Section 6-1-1 of the Code is shown below.  IANAL.

Parcel of Land means any lot or lots, or other contiguous areas of land constituting a combined area of not less than twenty acres where all of the landowners, tenants in possession or agents of such landowners and tenants have joined in a written acknowledgement of the rights of persons to shoot on all of such land.

Edit - looks like there is a provision in Chapter 6 to allow use of a firearm for hunting on >= 5 acres if the land is zoned as agricultural, among other conditions such as State code, etc.

I would word your question as "minimum land requirement for recreational shooting". Your need to discharge a firearm is not under their approval.  They can regulate landuse so that it is not appropriate for target shooting.  In my nearby town a guy shot a rabid racoon on his 1/4 acre lot, no trouble for that, but he did get ticketed for sending a shotgun pellet into his neighbor. He would have additional penalties if he was target shooting.

I think PWC is 5 acres. Here in Clarke Co. if you own the land, you can shoot on it as long as it is not inside city/town limits. I have my own 100yd range on my 12 acres..........
