I'm in VA now, with a VA driver's license and I'd like to get my first concealed carry permit.

What is the simplest way to meet the training requirement?  Also, is there a step-by-step guide somewhere on how to get the VA in-state carry licence?

Process varies by county, here is the Fairfax cty process: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/courts/circuit/sp-248.htm

Recommend in person training with an NRA instructor.

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_ResidentConcealed.shtm has everything you need.  Price varies by county but cannot be more than $50.

No, it doesn't. The process is set by the state. If your county is asking for anything extra or different, you need to call bullshit on them.

To answer your question, the absolute simplest way to meet the training requirement is to take one of the on-line classes.  There also are classes offered at the Gun Show this weekend at Dulles Expo center.

After that an NRA basic pistol course is the next easiest option.

However none of those are the best training options.  You really should take a course that covers VA specific laws and case law.

"The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide,"  Bloomfield Press.

ALL Virginia lethal force law is case law.

Their is no statute law for anyone.

Read what he wrote again in its entirety.  The fee does, in fact, vary by county, since some counties charge LESS than the state allowed maximum (e.g. Prince William).

There is a lot of statute law that applies to buying/owning a handgun, where you can and cannot carry, etc.  Self defense case law isn't the only thing that applies to learning what you need to know to legally carry a handgun in Virginia.

I would recommend taking a good Concealed Carry class from an experience local instructor to get accurate facts and information from real experience.  E.g. John Murphy at FPF Training, or Elite Shooting Sports.  It is well worth the time and money to get correct information instead of hearsay, and be able to ask questions, and get in some live fire.

Do yourself a big favor. Invest in yourself and go see John Murphy at FPF Training. It will be money and time well spent.

It is all statewide now.

It is NOT "lethal force" law.

How and when you can use lethal force in Virginia is solely case law.

It is actually rather good.  But before you consider using lethal force you had better understand the how and when.

The consequences make buying, owning, and carrying pale in comparison.

"Justifiable homicide" and excusable homicide."

The PROCESS is the same, regardless of the fee.

if you want you can just take the hunters safety class and that will count for the concealed handgun permit and its free.
