Y'all: My permit is lost, as in unrelocated....without recounting the details, I went to the Fairfax County Courthouse, and armed with my notarized form, I will have a replacement in two weeks....in the interim, can I carry with a copy of my missing license? I have a color copy of my Va, License, Utah License, but am not sure if this is "ok"....anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance....(this is a post you don't want to have to make- even with photocopies "regenerating your wallet" is painful).

A copy of your permit is not your permit. When I got my latest CHP it was when they were still issuing the paper ones. Before I signed it, I made a copy, cut it out, and signed it in blue ink, just like the original. Then I laminated both of them. I defy you to tell me which one is the original. I carry one and have the other in my safe at home in case I lose the one I'm carrying. |

A copy of your permit is not your permit. Know anyone that has gotten in trouble for presenting a copy? Consider that the ATF lets crufflers buy guns from distributors with just a faxed copy of their 03FFL. Like Conductor said I don't think anyone can tell the difference between my CHP copy and the original. |

| Neither my 2008 CHP from Bedford County Virginia, nor my 2013 CHP From Lynchburg City Virginia have anything embossed on them. They are merely a piece of paper that you sign and then are suggested to have laminated at Staples or Office Depot so that it will hold up to everyday wear and tear in your wallet for 5 years. |

My permit out of VA Beach isn't embossed either. I would love an actual card instead of this paper stuff though. This is where I tell everybody that I wrote a few state delegates and my senator about this very issue. This year I went the route that these documents are easily forgeable. |

My Henrico CHP is paper and the Chesterfield permits used to be paper but I haven't lived there for years. Mine isn't embossed, either. I sorta wish they were plastic, though, it would fit better in my wallet and I wouldn't have to laminate them. |

I don't know if all of the counties and cities are doing it, but Loudoun County has been issuing a plastic card for the past six months or so. |

Loudoun county's look like the old style Va drivers licenses and are plastic. |
The first permit I received back in the 90s was a pink piece of paper that all my personal info written by the court clerk in pencil. The only printing on it was the county seal, and the county info denoting it was a CHP. I could have made a better looking fake if I had wanted. ![]() |

My PWC permit is a POS - as anyone who has one will attest. I literally did this - - when I got it. It looks like a 19 year old trying to make a fake adult ID.
The "seal" is not an embossed seal, and it looks like a photocopy of a photocopy. All the details are smudged and it's really quite crappy. --------------------- ยง 18.2-308.01. Carrying a concealed handgun with a permit. <SNIP> B. Failure to display the permit and a photo identification upon demand by a law-enforcement officer shall be punishable by a $25 civil penalty, which shall be paid into the state treasury. --------------------- So, if I somehow forget my shitty permit someday, I'm not overly concerned. |
