Who has a guy that can replace a garbage disposal? I'm sick of being under the sink and have reached out to two companies that wanted $240 and $250. I have the replacement.

They are pretty simple to replace.
Very simple if there is already one there.

If you get a larger one use a car jack to lift it up into position.

Simple to replace, don't need a pro.  Know any jobless guys that would do it for a few bucks?

FWIW, I took a public health engineering course and garbage disposals were highly frowned upon and added to the design capacity.  I've taken mine out, just something very easy to live without (in a rural setting anyhow) and if you have a septic you are doing yourself a favor.

Prices are not out of line. I do many of these a year. A good one, and who wants a crappy one that will leak, will run about 90-100 bucks. That leaves 100-125 for the guy who gets to lay on his side and back under your nasty sink while swapping the electrical cord over.

That said, I'm an old semi-retired guy who does them for 160 bucks. Ask around, you will find someone to knock it out for you.

I'm not knocking the price, people have to make a living.  I'm just seeing stuff like this is starting to make more more financial sense to do yourself if you can. Fortunately for contractors there's so many people that won't/ can't touch it that prices typically are aligned to the demand.

See if the plumbing lines are a good fit, had to re-engineer some of the lines to fit.  Turn off power to that breaker and put tape over the switch if you DIY.

Thats why I do as much maintenance on my cars and house as I can, at $120/hr I can buy alot of tools or even if it takes double the time, it worth it.

Get a 1 horsepower stainless chamber and be done with it.

They are big (lot of sound insulation), heavy (decent motor), and quiet.
Worth every penny.

I've got no doubt they're easy to replace, I've just not had any luck removing the existing one and have decided it's time to have somebody else do it.

I'd gladly pay somebody $125 to make the swap, but $250 for labor alone I thought was a bit much.
