Recommended safe movers in the Lynchburg, VA area. I will be purchasing a Liberty Lincoln 35 safe from Gander Mountain in Roanoke and having it moved and installed at my house in the greater Forest area. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Craig |

You can easily move a safe yourself with the help of two or three friends.
Rent the cart to move it from Sunbelt or even homedepot. Needs to be heavy duty. If your going up stairs Sunbelt rents a special cart with a motor and lift arms that make it rally easy to get them up stairs. If you don't have any steps to go up or if your going down steps a regular heavy duty appliance cart will work. Empty safes slide real easy on wood floors if you put a piece or carpet under them shag side down. If you area moving them on carpet they slide real easy. You can get a safe in a pickup by laying it down on its back. These safes have no safety devices that are affected when you lay them down. OR you could rent a uhaul truck or small uhaul trailer and tow it behind your vehicle or a buddies that has a hitch. Safe movers want a fortune to move them. I had a qoute of $800 dollars to move a safe down one set of stairs and six blocks to a garage. It cost me two packs of beer for my three buddies, $35 to rent a uhaul truck and $15 to rent the cart. PS. - Gander doesn't deliver the safe to you? When I bought mine from a Liberty dealer it included delivery free of charge within a certain distance. |

If you order from Gander Mountain online then the $691.00 delivery charge includes installation. If you buy it in the store there is no delivery charge and moving is at your own expense. The Liberty Lincoln LX35 weighs 890LBS empty; I doubt it would slide easily on any surface. |
| When I bought mine from Gander, a Fatboy Jr, they gave me a list of people who would deliver and get it in the house. Here's what i did: got a towtruck driver friend of mine to meet me with a rollback at gander. They put it on the truck with a fork lift. Roll back drove to my house where I had 3 co workers and an appliance dolley from Budget. Strapped safe to dolley and rolled it to the back of the carport to the stairs going down to the basement. I drove my Jeep to the side of the house and used my winch to lower the safe down the stairs while co workers guided it. We then put the safe on a utility dolly and rolled it into the basement door where it was set on the floor. When I moved I did the reverse of this , but minus the 3 co workers. Myself and a buddy did this and the safe fell over on the steps and cracked a bottom edge, probably compromising the fire proofing. Don't be an idiot like me and do it right, even though it costs more it could save you alot of headaches. |

I have no friends; it would be me and the wife. Mostly the wife because I have a messed up back. |

Well it's almost done. I went to Gander Mountain in Roanoke and bought a Liberty Lincoln LZ35 in Mirror Black Gloss with Chrome Hardware. They had the name of a safe mover, the same one that was there this time last year when I was contemplating buying a safe, so I called him to get a quote and procedures. He said, "just give me your name and that when I pick it up I will give it to Gander Mountain and they would bring the safe out and load it on my vehicle." I have to call him tomorrow for pick-up and delivery dates. He didn't have his calendar with him because it was Sunday afternoon when I called him. I was actually surprised that he even answered the phone.
Here's the bill so far: $2599.99 Liberty Lincoln 35 Mirror Black w/ Chrome Hardware $130.00 Tax $2729.99 Total $200.00 Mail In Rebate from Gander Mountain $400(move/install quote) J&M Locksmith and Security I will update after installation and final billing. |
