nice facility. pretty pricey - they charge for everyone in your group even if you just get one spot on the firing line. only go there for classes or if i really want to zero at long range. Yup They also charge extra to shoot the 300yd range on top of the regular range fee. |

Only been once since ownership changed. Used to have year membership for 70$ (or $100 for joint membership with indoor range at Lynhaven).
Now the prices are crazy. I dont need a fancy place to shoot. I loved it when it was a dump and Bill (Bob?) and his dog ran the place. They have successfully priced me out of shooting there. |

I'm a member of Norfolk County Rifle Range and was looking for a place to shoot my AR since I can't do that at NCRR. I was considering C2, but the pricing kept me away. I finally reconsidered Airfield shooting club in Wakefield and joined that club a few months ago. The yearly dues are $75 a year with a one time $50 initiation fee. It is a little bit of a drive for me. It takes me 1 hour to drive there from the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake. But when I compared it to C2, the drive was only about 20 min longer.
So for only a little bit more of a drive I figured if I shot at ASC at least 4 times a year, it would only cost me less than $20 each range trip (unlimited time and access to trap/skeet, the ranges are 15, 25, 50 and 100 M), to include gas, I'd add about $20 round trip. Compare that to C2, where one range trip lasting two hours on the firing line will be $12.50 per person per hour; My son usually goes with me so that's another $5.50 an hour. Total for shooting would be $36 plus about $8 in gas. So ASC for four unlimited time range trips a year equals $75 plus about $80 in gas. Compared to C2 for four 2 hour range trips a year equals $144 plus about $24 in gas. I chose ASC and have been 4 times in the 3 months I've been a member. |
