Hello all,
I need a gunsmith who can properly fit a Boyds Buttstock to my vintage Winchester model 12 and then grind-to-fit a repro red rubber recoil pad. I want the gunsmith to fit the stock in such a way that will eliminate the recoil cracking of the buttstock that was chronic with the m.12 and I want to have the stock and pad fit/cut to the original factory length of pull. Unfortunatley, there are a lot of people out there with a grinder and a blueing tank that call themselves a gunsmith but most of them I wouldn't trust to fit a dog turd into a garbage can. I need this job done the right way. Any recommendations? |

You do realize that if you grind to fit the buttpad, it's going to look like hell. There are techniques to fit a recoil pad to dimension as you want but doing it without the finished cuts looking rough can be difficult. The best option is to get one that is designed for the application or get the stock slightly oversized and fit the stock to the recoil pad.
To do what you want, you're going to need a good selection of wood from boyd's which isn't a problem and it'll need to be a bit stouter than the original design or you're going to be using a laminate stock. It can be done but if done right it won't be super cheap. |
