... will submit a bill in Richmond to return Arlington and Alexandria proper –– that is, the portion of ten-mile square "District constituting the seat of government of the United States" on the Virginia side of the Potomac –– back to Washington, DC? Here's a <- Link -> to a detailed map of the District's original boundaries, and a smaller version for the purposes of this contribution::
In an arrangement that resulted from a meeting between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, Maryland and Virginia each ceded "ten miles square" on their respective sides of the Potomac river, where the Federal government established its permanent seat in 1800. In 1846, the Virginia portion of the original territory of Columbia, encompassing Old Town Alexandria and Arlington County, was "retroceded" by Congress to the Commonwealth, resulting in the current borders:
Why do I, an Arlingtonian, want to join the District of Columbia? I don't. But vying with U.S. Representative Moron for the 'most reprehensible' award, State Delegate Patrick Hype (D-Arlington) says he, "will introduce a bill that would ban guns from both the Capitol Building and the General Assembly Building where lawmakers have their offices." (Here a <- Link ->.) I am ashamed of, and apologize for, the character of those elected to represent NoVa voters. While Farifax politicians would remain as a smirch against the Commonwealth's character, give the Arlingtonian and Alexandrian voters what they seem to desire ... DC south of the Potomac. The Commonwealth would be rid of pukes like Moron and Hype, who could then luxuriate in the libtard nirvana only a bridge-crossing away. Mr. Lingamfelter, are you there? . |

What in the hell could possibly be his motivation for ceding this land? Like a cancer, the sickness exhibited by the elected representatives from Arlington and Old Town Alexandria (and adjacent areas, like Falls Church and McLean) should be excised from the Commonwealth. Keeping the Commonwealth healthy should be motivation enough. Look at what has happened in Vermont, Oregon, etc. where Libtards were first welcomed (leastwise to the tax rolls), and then slowly and surely began to change the nature of the state. If an earnest effort towards (re)ceding the Virginia portion of the ten-mile-square District began, and the rationale was loudly trumpeted (to allow the DC-thinking citizenry to join their libtard soul-mates) ... ... my fellow citizens might re-assess what they're always wishing for and ... ... my representatives (at the county, state, and federal level) might start sounding and acting more like Virginians. If it actually happened, and the Commonwealth let go of this cancer before it further metastasizes, a number of good things result. Many of my elected representatives would be out of jobs, replaced by the likes of DC's non-voting Representative, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and ... ... my county's bureaucracy would (perhaps) be reduced in size and ... ... my county's bureaucracy would definitely be subordinate to HIzzoner Mayor Vincent Gray, and successors. (This would be spectacular!) Carried to the conclusion, the (re)ceding of Arlington to the District of Columbia would be well worth the disruption to my household, which moving would represent. Give it a thought, please. Weigh the good against the bad. I believe you'll arrive at the same conclusion that I have. And if your initials are PVC, and you should agree with my sentiments (and because I can't attend the VCDL Lobby Day), perhaps the idea could be floated there with 2A-friendly reps. I suspect it'd be newsworthy. . |

There is a bright side. Those areas are historically liberal. If you return them to DC, you take away their vote at both the state and federal level. This.... There is little hope that the area in question will ever be anything but a liberal torn in the side of tradional Virginians and our values. Good riddence to bad rubbish. |

i think this is an ok idea with one caveat, there is a lot of trash to roundup and relocate from all over the state then transplant into their free new housing on that property before we give it back...
i would start with the lists of repeat criminals and welfare recipients and go from there... pack 'em up and let 'em live next to those that make excuses for them and reward their actions... good riddance to all sorts of bad rubbish... K. |

I think we should go the other way and give back the rest of DC, except for the federal triangle, to the suck ass state of MD where it belongs. This is what i've been saying since I moved here, though, come to think of it, defanging libtardia in NoVa sounds appealing |

oh tell me this is gona happen. let them have that shit hole. as a matter of fact let's give up a few more square miles and be done with it. the few extra tax dollars ain't worth it. I can deal with a bad road here and there, the satisfaction of knowing the libs screwed themselves would be priceless.
