Can anyone recommend me a good window replacement company in the NOVA area? I am looking to get new windows installed in my townhouse and the process is nauseating to say the least. Every time I have had a company out they expect me to make a decision and sign a contract right on the spot.

I had a company in today and had previously told the sales rep on the phone before he came that I would be seeking multiple quotes from different contractors and that I would need a quote good for 30 days, and low and behold kept asking me “why would I need another quote” “we have the best windows available”, “just put $100 down and get the ball rolling.”

If anyone can recommend a reputable window Replacement Company that doesn’t use afore mentioned douche bag sales tactics I would greatly appreciate it.

I replaced my windows two years ago and didn't have a good experience.  One window contractor stiffed me for about 6K on deposit and went out of business.  The work was picked up by The Window Man and they did a decent job, but it took them months to complete the job to my satisfaction and their billing practices left something to be desired.  I can say that you should stay away from Long Windows.  They wouldn't even show me their windows w/o my wife present.  She wasn't present when the sales guy arrived and I told him she wouldn't be there.  He called his 'manager' and then left w/o showing me anything.  I can only assume that's because they wanted to do the high pressure sale routine.

I'm in the same boat, shopping for a window replacement outfit, so pls keep the recommendations and reports of your experiences coming. I'm dreading the hi-pressure sales tactics that I know will be coming.

Good comment about Long Windows. There WERE on my list, but those tactics are just what I want to avoid, too.

I nearly had to threaten the guys from Long Windows to leave my house.  Stay far far away from them.  Besides, they had the highest quote of the bunch for me by almost 40%.

I ended up using a company called Tom Hanger however his website is gone so I'm not sure if he's still around.  This was 2-3 years ago.  His guys were on time, fast, courteous and cleaned up after themselves.

Window World out of Fredericksburg.  (540) 834-4244...I am more than willing to bet they would come up your way.

I had all of the windows replaced in my house last summer.  They were polite, efficient and clean.  They put down tarps inside and out to keep the mess to a minumum and the guys who did the work were friendly.  I was able to get the whole quote process down to about 30 minutes, including the time it too the sales guy to measure the windows.

I didn't get pressured to upgrade beyond the base windows, and the only option I chose was to have the exterior wood trim sheathed in aluminum.

The windows I picked, again the base line of their product, work great.  There is a noticeable difference in the way the house stays warm/cool and they feel very solid.  Making the switch from the 52 yr old single pane windows was one of the best things we have done to our house!

I still have some of those window companies calling me... and I had the work done five years ago!

"Remove me from your calling list" is apparently something they cannot understand.

We ultimately went with Home Depot.  Partly because they were the only folks who didn't repeatedly bother us, nor pressure us into buying 'on the spot', and partly because of the 0% interest for 12mos payment plan using a HD card.  (Did the same thing with our entry doors, and central AC)

The subcontractor was an asian father/son team.  Very fast and efficient.  After five years we're still happy with the windows we had replaced.

We were less satisfied with the subcontractors used for the entry doors... but overall experience was still positive.
HD subcontracts to FH Furr for HVAC in the area.  I've been happy with them thus far as well.

I used Windows Plus several years ago.  They installed Gorrell armored glass for the price everyone ese wanted for regular windows.  Also had a lifetime warranty on them.  Which I had to use when my boys broke the window in their room.

"Upgraded" windows?  Do you mean dual-pane?  Energy star?

I'll say yes.  I got them installed in my San Diego condo, and they made a huge difference in noise, and my electric bill went down.  Not by much... say about $20-25 a month.  But still...

I started seeing someone who just got windows in her place.  I'll ask her who she used and what her opinion of them and their product is.

Yes-I think to get the $1500 tax credit, the new windows have to be at least Energy star-we have builder grade double panes now, but the hardware is starting to disintegrate and of course we can't get replacement parts.

When I did the math I figured that even with the .gov 'giving' me some money back I was still gonna pay a fair amount more for the qualifying windows.  After talking to enough folks I determined it wasn't worth the up front extra cost.  The base line windows I picked work great, we can really tell the difference now that winter is starting up.

Creative Windows in Sterling hooked up my townhouse in Ashburn.  We went with them because they gave us the best price for the ten windows and two sliding doors we had replaced AND were the least pushy when it came to the sale and quote.  We definitely did not appreciate the cocky/condescending rep from Thompson Creek and another firm in Sterling that escapes me at the moment.  Hope this helps.
