Here's another one..

I will be working the greater South Norfolk area of Chesapeake later today.

I usually run radar on Tatemstown and Stahlham, Old Atlantic and Atlantic, and Campostella and Common.

I wont necessarily stay in any of those spots for too long, I like to move around between calls.

Be advised, I will also stop for equipment violations, and tint violations.

:)

Then you need to watch out on RT 17 if you decide to avoid those on 64. I (I mean they) like to sit in the median at the Coleman bridge and from the Courthouse to the Middlesex line....

So where are the hot spots on I-81? I'll be traveling from North of Winchester to TN on Sunday the 12th.

Cool info, thanks LEOs.

From mile marker 34 to the Tenn line. That is Washington County and the federal govt is paying the OT for them to write tickets. 70mph will earn you one too.

Not a cop, I just watch brake lights and slow down at each one of those "Authorized Vehicles Only" turn-arounds

Almost every other time I turn off 208 onto I-64W they are set up on the ramp checking licenses.

I did pullover a nice gentleman with a CCW carrying a Glock 23.

Folks, laminate your CCW permit. This guy's looked like it had been through the wash a half a dozen times.

When you do carry, make sure you carry the same weapon the officer carries while he is off duty!!

I saw one set up yesterday at 6PM, about 3 miles west of Route 15 on 64.

And there is a perpetual trap on 250, west of the I64 exit.

That and/or a Don't Tread on Me sticker have been known to be good reasons for me to use discretion in not writing tickets.

Were you out by route 602/17 on Sunday?
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 6:07:00 PM EDT
We drove up to MD Sunday to see off my buddy's son. This will be his second tour in the sand box.

I have never seen so many Police out on the roads in all my 30 years in this area! Wow.

I just set the cruise control to the speed limit and enjoyed the beautiful day and conversation with my family as we drove.

I was that annoying guy holding everyone else back going slow in the right lane in a big white van.

I have no problems with that at all! It's the people who do that in the LEFT lane that drive me nuts.

I'm amused how often I see AR related stuff on cars and trucks around here.
Saw a "6.8 Inside" sticker on a big truck while merging on from 616 on to I-64 a week or so ago.
I've seen them a few times in Cville as well.

Any details on your boss's "stealth" bust. Do you know what kind of hardware he was running.
tkx.

It was a higher end cobra detector with a GPS logging chip. Let me see if I can fine the model.

looking at the models I can't tell for sure but a few have the removable USB GPS chip.

What he said was he was running with traffic or maybe 5 over, It was his first time using it since his wife bought it for him. He said the officer was hiding on an entrance ramp and entered when the radar detector detector picked up a signal. From there the officer had to narrow down which car it was that had one running. Once it was figured out he was pulled over. The officer asked him why he was even running it as he wasn't speeding enough to even need to be running one.
My boss also said that there wasn't a single blip, blink, or noise from his detector to indicate that he was caught or in stealth mode.

Me, I shut mine down any time I think I might be detected.

Stay safe.

VSP said they would have 70 or 75% of the force out on the roads for the holiday weekend. thats why you saw so many.

Did he get nailed by VSP? Some units have Spectre IV RDD (radar detector detectors) that will pick up signals emitted by all but a small handful of the higher end units from Bel and Escort. VG2 RDD has been around awhile and is easy to defeat, the Spectre changes the game significantly. I've never had any experience with Cobra but if you are serious about running a RD don't cheap out. Do it right.

ETA: Are you sure your boss wasn't hit with laser? By the time your RD goes off you just got a ticket...assuming your RD even went off in the first place.

No speeding ticket, just for the radar. I believe it was VSP. so they do have the spectre. that sucks.

Just get a Bel STI, Spectre IV immune.

CB radio too, the truck drivers all let you know at least five miles in advance of the speed trap. They gossip worse than a bunch of old wimmins...

This! I've ran a CB in every vehicle I've owned since 1972. I haven't gotten a ticket on the highway yet.
Knock, knock on wood.

Would I be alone here in having the opinion that speeding just isn't worth all the work and hassle and stress?
Having to be constantly on edge and looking out for the speed traps and getting caught up in the dreaded "Accordian" of vehicles racing to speed up and then slamming their brakes on over and over? Since reaction times are less and less for the last folks in line on the accordian, the folks at the rear tend to have rear end colllisions.
Stress, edgyness, higher possiblity of accidents, expense of tickets and accidents..........

Maybe I am just becoming an old man. But I prefer life in the slow lane now. My insurance rates are about a joke too. My "kids" hate me for it compared to what they have to pay for theirs.

Yep, the trip is much more relaxing when you just sit down, set the GPS and set the cruise control and then hop in the back seat for a nap and take your time getting there.

OK, just joking about the last part.

When our kids were younger we owned a C Class RV. We tow a trailer with the bike on it to rallies. Not exactly a sports car. We'd often travel on back hiways like Route 17. We'd let folks pass us. Lots of folks would pass us. But you know what? Red lights are tthe great equalizer. Seems like we always caught up to them at the next light. If they did get there faster than we did, it wasn't by much. Slowing down meant less stress, significantly better gas mileage too. We'd enjoy the trip more.

Slowing down...... I recommend it from personal experience!

Make sure you get one with sideband, lots of drivers going there due to the stupidness on channel 19.

Really? Which ssb channel do they use? Both of my vehicle have ssb rigs in them.

I kept the speed to about 7 over, heard of 2 spots where the bears were active and backed it down a bit. Now the fine folks in TN do like to move right along. At 7 over I was getting flown right past a lot.

Hey, man, another slowpoke here. I grew up on a crotch rocket, my need for speed has long been sated. Not worth the worries, plus, if I was speeding and something bad happened to someone innocent, I would know that I did not do all I could to prevent it. YMMV
