It's not considered one because it's not centerfire. "Assault Firearm" is defined as any semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol which expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock. ...from page 33 of http://www.vsp.state.va.us/downloads/firearms/Firearms_Dealer_Procedures_Manual.pdf |

That right I could not buy an AR with 30rd mag (it's an immigration thing) the nice folks at NOVA armament switched it for a 20 and I was good to go

Has nothing to do with the feds. |

I purchased this same rifle and had to show proof of citizenship and full background check. My rifle came with a 25 round mag. I noticed that S&W now lists the same rifle with a 10 round (compliant) mag. Not sure if my local gun store went overboard on the check or not??? |
