| Have a Mossberg 500, need the wrench to remove the forend. Anyone in the NOVA area have one or have an idea where to get one? |
|
channel locks, something to protet the finish(leather works best for me), and if all else fails a bigger hammer... i too had one similar to what you're describing and it was a bare to finally break free and then unscreew, and the propper spanner wrench would have been helpful, but it will come off eventully without...
and remember if you mess up, several dollars invested in a decent file set to smooth out the acidents, and some permablue or alumiblack are always helpful, and well worrth the money spent if you tinker much... K. |

I tried finding a spanner wrench, but they were just too expensive. I ultimately made a tool using a piece of pvc pipe from Home Depot. I think it was 1". I just cut the end with a coping saw to match the slots in the nut. Then I used a strap wrench to twist it while applying downward force on the pvc to keep it from popping out of the slots. My Mossberg 500 was about 10 years old when I first removed it. Also used the tool to do one other forearm before it broke. I just re-cut the end and had a new tool!
Good Luck! |
| Channel Locks worked like a dream. It was on there good though. This gun had the wooden stock and wood forearm on it. In it's previous life, my dad used it as his under the counter last chance weapon at his convenience store and he put a pistol grip on it. Has the 14 inch barrel on it. I purchased a black stock and forearm. Just looks better. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. |

Better make sure you aren't in possession of an NFA firearm, BATF isn't noted for their leinency in areas such as this. |

I'm pretty sure if it is registered as an AOW and you remove the pistol grip and put a but stock on it you have just created a SBS and it is no longer an AOW, which would mean another $200 tax stamp. If it was registered as a SBS to begin with it can have either a pistol grip or a shoulder stock on it. |
