Guys, I am moving up to VA by the end of the year.
Is it hard to get a CCW permit? I will be living near Stafford. Thanks, Max |

Virginia is a shall issue state.
You should be able to find all the information you need at the VA State Police site: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_ResidentConcealed.shtm |

You may want to peruse the Virginia forum on Opencarry.org also for carry specific info. There a quite a few of us on this board and also the opencarry board that live in Stafford county (and the surrounding area). So if you have questions about the county or surrounding counties/cities feel free to ask them.
Welcome to Virginia (when you get here.) .

I let my CCW lapse and have to renew it in Stafford and needed some info about requirements and time it takes to renew. Should have done it a long time ago and only thought about it now that I want to buy both a S&W M&P 45C and a Kel-Tec PF9 at the same time! |

If it lapsed, you apply for a new CHP all over again, as though it were your initial application. Your training does not expire. |

That's what I thought - at least it's a fast process in Stafford. I'm going down tomorrow to take care of it and get back on track. |

Welcome to VA. One difference between VA and NC is that in VA there is no requirement to immediately show your CHP if you are pulled over for a routine traffic stop, although some recommend doing so. Also, if you're into NFA stuff, it's alot easier in VA.
ETA: And Welcome! |

I thought there were indicators in the DMV system so the officer/trooper knows when he runs your tag you're a CCW permit holder. |

NOW, that being said, if they then run your tag and then run your name/license then it would show up. they dont automatically run your name with the tag because they dont know if your the one driving. if that makes sense. |

Keep us updated as to when you move here... I'm right off 610 & 95. Hijacking the thread but I'm in the same location, small world. Another hijack, I'm a mile down 610 from 95. Same street as Meineke. Maybe we should get together? I'm just off Eustace in Whitson Ridge. |

See what kind of odd looks I get. |
