| Over the past few months I have bought 3 ea Surplus 280 round cans of 3006 M2 Ball Ammo for $200.00 each. These are 30 cal cans with 35 ea 8 round Enblock clips and cardboards, all ammo is Lake City and 1970's vintage so no corrosive primers. I have been thinking about getting another can or two just for a when the SHTF back up to my black rifle's. |

I flat out don't know anything about it,
but this greek stuff was 67 cents a round http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=146302307 and this FMJ stuff comes loose in a bag at 95 cents a round http://www.ammogarand.com/3006-m2-150gr-fmj-ball-30062150100.html so for you 71 cents a round, I'm thinking it's good. |

When comparing to what CMP was selling it for (keyword: was), it's a bit high.
But given LC supply is dried up, and even HXP supply at this time, is nil... it's not too bad. Hard to gauge until CMP releases more HXP, and even then, I suppose CMPs price only matters if you're qualified to purchase it. There isn't much surplus M2 ball out there anymore... so I'm in the 'get what you can, while you can' mindset. If you have the cash, it should be well worth it to ensure you have a supply for your Garand. |

I looked at it this way, $200.00 for the package of 280 rounds, less the can which would be around $10.00, less about $1,25 per enbloc clip and less $.25 for the cardboard, these are just averages of what I have seen a gun shows were the prices are better. thie extras come out to $62.50 which deducted from $200.00 comes out to 137.50 devided by 280 for about 49-50 cents a round.
This may be dumb logic but if I bought the componets seperatly then I would have paid even more for the same thing. Right now I am trying to justify in my own mind another can or two. ANGMSG |

I do the same thing. So if it makes you feel better (and it should)... at 50c/rd, you're right up there with the last batch of CMP ammo I got that didn't have enblocs/bandoliers, and in some cases... didn't have reusable 30cal cans (spam cans). Somehow I highly doubt the price will remain as such when CMP offers up the next batch. Which should further justify your local purchase. |

its not bad for stuff already in the clips. But i still get LC in 20rd boxes for $150 per 280 So they are both pretty fairly matched in price if you account for what extra you are getting. I would buy some if i had the extra money.
So keep getting em if hes got'em. |

I suppose CMPs price only matters if you're qualified to purchase it. For those that may not know, it's pretty easy to qualify for CMP ammo and rifle purchases. All you need is to join an affiliated club, be a US citizen, over 18, be legally able to buy a firearm and have proof of some shooting activity. More info here. VCDL is an affiliated club and shooting activity can be as simple as a form signed by a Range Safety Officer, a carry permit or proof of military or law enforcement service. |

Bear80,
I have been waiting for the CMP to get more of the Greek stuff in. As retired military and a DAV member I qualify for purchasing thru them. I just thought that this was a good deal, I may go back and get more because once the spam can is open its open. Turnskull, Did you get my email via ARFCOM on this? ANGMSG (Ron) |
