I've got 5 or so older 22s and shotguns that aren't worth much, and would like to sell them. They really aren't worth the extra trouble of going through a FFL. I know I can do a FTF transfer, but can I legally mail a rifle to another Virginia resident within the state? The only answers I could find were on on the Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association, where the discussion said there was no issue with it, but thats a Pennsylvania  forum.

I appreciate you guys answers, but please back up whatever you state with some kind of documentation or point me to where I can find it. Just saying its legal or illegal doesn't really help me.

It's perfectly legal.

There is no document that says something is legal.

It's only the LACK of laws making something illegal that makes it legal.

That's like asking someone for a document that says its legal to wear a green shirt on Sundays.

Thanks, the documentation line was more for people who wanted to tell me I would go to prison.

Is there a decent Virginia sales forum? The guns I am looking to get rid of aren't really Ar15.com quality, they just take up precious space in my gun safe.

He is talking about doing an intra state transfer not an inter state transfer. (i.e. mailing a rifle from one side of Va. to the other side of Va. not mailing a rifle from Va. to WV) There is no limit on how far away you can do a FTF transfer, as long as you remain in the same state, unless of course your state didn't allow them, this is not the case though.

ETA: I think that you can use the USPS or other common carriers for long guns as long as you tell them it is a firearm. It does not require, nor is it recommended, to label the package in anyway stating that the package contains a firearm. Definitely double check that though with whatever carrier (if any) you decide to use.
