| I'm thinking about getting a Thompson Center barrel made. I'd like to be able to use it as a carbine to hunt with and plink as a pistol. The rifle barrel must be 16"??? and is that total length or is it measured from the chamber. I'm not looking to be at the legal minimium just want something different. |

Not sure on your answer, but this company only makes rifle barrels 16 1/4"-26" and pistol barrels 9" - 15". Most I have seen were measured to include the chamber of the barrel. Not an expert though. Don't know if you have this website, nice selection on Thompson gear.

Barrel length is measured from the breech face of the bolt in the closed position to the most front PERMANENT part of the barrel. On handguns, it doesn't matter. On rifles, the barrel must be 16+ inches with an overall length of firearm being 26 inches. The OAL is with any stock extended or unfolded.
