Hello All,
A friend of mine from a few years back used to be all over this site, and I have since been lurking around while shopping for an AR. Granted, I have been planning on getting an AR this month for about a year and I am NOT one of the people freaking out over the new administration. Picked up a Colt AR15 A3 (6721) yesterday and am having it shipped over to Virginia Arms. Just wanted to put my name out here and say hello to all the folks. Anyway, looking forward to learning from you all, and taking my 03 experience and continuing it into civilian life! Oh, so what do you guys think about Magpul products? I used them when i was deployed but that was a whole different level of shooting... Oh yeah, I am in Fairfax VA... |

Welcome.
I guess if the Magpul products held up to your shooting while deployed, they would probably hold up to any of the weekend classes or 3 gun matches I would ever see. Their mags are built like tanks....My 2 cents. What particular items are you considering? I have only used the Mag Pulls, PMags, and the extended trigger guard. All really solid stuff. |

I am going for the two/tone look of OD Green stock, forearm rail panels, and the MIAD grips with the extended trigger guard... Just curious as I know that I like the products, but I am trying to convince myself that the $200 is worth it even though I just bought the weapon and don't have it in hand yet! |

You just described my current setup exactly. The MIAD, trigger guard & CTR are the primary contact points on the rifle and it makes a big difference in the feel / handling, for me. Great upgrades over A1/A2 pistol grip, standard trigger guard, and CAR/M4/A1 butt-stocks (they look damn sexy, too). No experience with the XTM panels (only KAC) but by all accounts they lock up tight, are tough, low profile but difficult to remove (feature or a bug? ).
Oh yeah... Welcome! |

Oh yeah... Welcome! Awesome... So you went with the CTR stock vice the MOE stock? I can't tell much of a difference (except visual) between the two to explain the additional $40... Supposedly, the MIAD Grip full kit comes with the enhanced trigger guard (saves about $12) and again, I am assuming that it is the same as the individual enhanced trigger guard... Which route did you take for the guard? |

welcome aboard, devil dog! i love the magpul extended trigger guard so much i forwarded it to the ice guys for evaluation (never heard back from them, though...). i have the tango down grip on my m-4gery but that's only cuz it came out before the miad grip. i don't think you can go wrong with either! Nice... thanks for the info! Now all I need is a convertible broomhandle/bipod in the OD green color.... :woot: Quoted:

There's a lot of good info to be had in the technical AR forums as well as Magpul's Industry Forum on this site. Be sure to check 'em out.
re: CTR vs MOE, same look & feel, but on the MOE there's no friction locking mechanism & no QD swing swivel mount points. The friction lock is spiffy, and I use a QD on my sling. re: MIAD vs MOE, MOE is a one-piece version of the MIAD with "medium size" backstrap. I prefer the larger backstrap, but don't think it's that great of a difference. re: Enhanced Aluminum Trigger Guard vs integrated plastic trigger guard in MIAD Full kit, obviously, one is aluminum and the other's plastic, but using the plastic guard included in the MIAD kit requires the use of an A2-like finger groove. I prefer a smooth front grip and went with the MIAD basic + alum trigger guard. |

So much reading to do... |

Virginia Arms is mostly GTG. I transferred a "junk gun" through them a while back and the dealer tried to tell me it was unsafe to fire, but then couldn't/wouldn't give me a reason why. I proved him wrong.. ![]() So far they have been pretty cool... Quoted:
Let me know when you get the 6721 and we can hit the NRA range and you can check out the Magpul stuff to see if it's worth burning up $200 ![]() Absolutely. They should be shipping it out today/tomorrow from Georgia... I am also going down to the NRA range this weekend and joining... |

Thanks guys...
My rifle has been listed as "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" since 0521 this morning. I'm dying over here... Been buying all sorts of shit for this thing; can't wait to get it cleaned up and get it out to the range! Man, I have bought way too much shit this week... |

i didnt see anybody explain it so the differences between the ctr and moe stock is the ctr has qd sockets and a friction lock and the moe doesnt. Perfect! Thanks for the clarification... Besides not wanting to have a "mediocre aftermarket product" I went with the CTR in OD. Looks like it was the right choice as I can use it with my own custom made 3-point sling... |

Gents...
She is finally here; took long enough to get her too! Picked up my Colt yesterday from Virginia Arms (Sidebar - VA Arms was SLAMMED yesterday when I went by at noon!!!) These are the only pictures that will ever be taken in her current "stock" configuration. Once the rest of my goodies get here, she will get a nice change of clothes.... Headed to the range tonight... too bad I only have about 120 rounds...
