I saw in the "Tell me about Winchester" thread that thebomber had listed this place as a shooting range near by. I check the website and it was not overly informative. Has any been there before? Is it worth it to join? Do you have to buy ammo for them? etc.
Thanks in advance. |

Never been there and probalby never will...you did read through the site, correct? - M-F LEO & Military only by appointment - read closed to the "normal" people - $20 per hour with $35 application fee - Membership is $300 per year From reading the web-site full-auto is only allowed on certain days and it cost a minimum $55 per visit, unless you get a membership ($20 hr + $35 app fee) if I'm reading it correctly. Not knowing where you live in relation to the Cove you can go there for $12 all day on weekends and $5 during the week and be able to shoot whatever you want. |

I was thinking about the Saturdays/Sundays when they are open to "civilians". At least thats what I assumed. Rippon is about 4 miles from my house and thought it might be a good option depending on the facilities. $20.00/hr seems a little pricey, not to mention the application fee.
The Cove is good fun and I like it for what it is, it's just not right down the road from me. |

I also would like to know more about the 340 Defense range, especially due to 300 yard distance and it is only a few miles up the road from me. I only shoot on weekends anyway, and going to Sleepy Creek to shoot at longer ranges is a pain. The Cove is alright for just short range blasting, but I am more benchrest shooting than anything else. |

I live a few miles from there and plan to stop by this weekend or next to check it out. I talked with the owner earlier this week. He said they are also adding a 400 yard range and building a tower (don't know how tall) for training shooters on judging elevation effects at distance.
It is in a fairly secluded area with nothing but fields around. Google Maps When I go by I plan to tell him that updating the website would be very helpful. I'm more interesting in the training options they have. I already have a cheap local range (Jeff. Co. IWLA) that I can shoot out to 200 yards. Maybe I'll get a membership at 340 next year. |
