| just moved havent had a chance to get iti changed yet. butmy dirvier license is updated. so the addresses dont match. is this ok? ive been carrying anyways |
It's not a problem. There's nothing on the books requiring you to update the address on your CHP. Mine still has my old address. I don't see the point in spending time and money to change it if it's still just as valid. Then again, you've just lost the use of your CHP as a second form of ID when buying a gun from a FFL. Nothing a voter card, passport, vehicle registration, hunting license, fishing license, personal check, recent utility bill, etc. can't fix, though. _MaH |
which is why i want it changed. i just hand it over when filling a 4473 |
what if he wants to buy 2 glock 19s? does it matter if they don't match? |
Immaterial. The multiple handgun purchase prohibition law says it shall not apply to:
Okay, so is a permit not valid if it does not display your current address? Right off the Virginia State Police - Firearms/Concealed Handguns webpage:
Oh, and if that's not enough, I've done this several times and the address on my CHP is the old one. _MaH |
Geez, what do you have, like 8 or 10 Glock 19s now? Seriously, I hope it's easier to get a replacement than when I tried about 10 years ago. The State Police, and the Circuit Courts of both my old and new localities were all baffled by the concept. |

From:HT thread D1. (Effective July 1, 2007 - see Editor's note) Whenever any person moves from the address shown on the concealed handgun permit, he shall, within 30 days, notify the issuing court of his change of address. The court shall issue a new concealed handgun permit as provided in subsection H and provide the Department of State Police with the permit information as required in subsection K. |
that did NOT become law, and was NOT effective July 1, 2007....that part of the statute was tied to funding from the VASP which never happened and that is NOT part of the current Code of Virginia... there was a thread about that last year after it was taken out of the final code that took place on July 1 asking that the stickied hometown thread be updated....but the address changes that were implemented on July 1, 2008 replaced that provision, and i believe allow the clerks of court to charge you for a new permit with your new address...but you do NOT have to change your permit, as that (never implemented) code section would imply... ETA: if you go to the current code here: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-308 you will see there is NO D1 |
Thanks for the link, I will update the info again. |
