I signed up for the IPSC shoot at the nra next week.

This will be my first time shooting in any sort of handgun match.  Has anyone been to one of these events before?  How was it?

I forgot to ask while signing up, but what is a good amount of ammo and number of magazines to bring?

Yes.

150 rounds should be more than enough for the NRA matches. As for mags, depends on your gun. If it's a single stack, I'd suggest 5 or 6, for a hi-cap, 4 should be enough.

Welcome aboard!

I met several fine folks from this very VA Hometown section a few months back at an NRA indoor shoot. Have been a bit busy with the misus expecting our first child on the 21st of this month, so I have not been back, but:

I posted a lengthy response here in the VA hometown section, but I do not have the ability to search in Hometown.

If anyone can dig up the thread on "competition" and post a link, I'd really appreciate it.

You are in for a treat - the NRA runs a GREAT shoot and I am betting there will be several folks who were in your shoes just a few months back & would be willing to give you any help you need.

Ed, which one of your Glock's will you be using in the match? 9mm or .40 , I am guessing your going to run a 9mm, cheaper ammo FTW

Don't worry about trying to go fast.  Just take your time, shoot safe, and be prepared to have alot of fun!

I haven't decided yet.  I shoot best with the .40, but its cheaper to go with the 9mm.
