I am in the western part of the state and need some help. I have a roadie donor (wrong dropouts), but would rather make a clean start with the right setup.

BTW, I am way over the curve (60's born) and need some young-blood input.

Would this be a fixed gear bicycle?

If it is. I can help you out.

Oh god the hipster disease is spreading...

Fixies are freaking deathmobiles, but to each his own. I commute to work on a hybrid when weather's nice so what do I know.

Seriously though good luck on getting some help. Not my cup of tea but I still love seeing customized bikes.

Yup, I just need some input on components that will get the job done and not cost a zillion dollars.

I never really gave them more then a passing glance until I rode one. They are a great workout with both positive and negative resistance when you ride different terrain.

Well that is cool.  I hadn't thought about that aspect of it. Still, the idea of getting something stuck in that sprocket & chain gives me the willies.

So this is a bike then?

I was trying to figure out what type of gun that could be.

Well...

I would like to know what your "donor" bike came with.

The most important thing I would look for is RUST, especially in the bearing area of the chainring/crank area and the wheel hubs. These should rotate freely with very little or no noise.

Other than that, a fixie should have not much more, not even brakes! The pedals operate along with the rear wheel. You can also pedal backwards!

CAUTION... Do not get ANYTHING caught in the chain/sprocket... If it does, say goodbye to it. Pedal strike sucks as well...

Go here for more info. and check out your local craiglist to scavenge parts.

My donor is an old Cannondale with full Campagnolo components. I am not that thrilled about striping it but it is an old roadie with pretty much seen it's better days (component wise).

Well, the last vehicle vs bicycle crash only put me out of the game for 6 months!
