Hi Folks,

If anyone is interested in a tech writing position, the department where I
work, Combatant Craft Division, will be looking for a competent tech writer
to help write tech manuals for Navy small craft.

Writing ability is most important, then knowledge of boats or at least some
knowledge of engineering or automotive systems. Military service probably a
plus. Hire would be through a government contractor to work on-site at Little
Creek Amphib. Base, Norfolk.

Edited to add: XML programming knowledge a plus.

If person works out well, it could lead to a government position and other
excellent opportunities.

Combatant Craft Division handles most small craft engineering, T&E, etc. for
USN, USA, USMC, and USCG craft. It's a great work environment that provides
plenty of opportunities for those with initiative.

If anyone is interested email me. Don't IM, email.

I'm not doing the hiring, but I can put you in contact to the person that is.

Regards,

Zip

Tech writers are supposed to know technical stuff about what they are writing about?  Has to be the Navy.   Air Force contractors only hire tech writers that were English majors.

Well.. the ideal is someone who can write and knows about boats. But the truth is if the person can write well and learn about boats, ie. has some mechanical aptitude, then that that might be enough.

It would be a good job for a former sailor with small craft experience and some writing ability. There are editors and illustrators to help with format and artwork. Tech writing doesn't sound all that glamorous, but it may involve some travel and opportunities to crawl around on the latest Navy boats and maybe even do some on the water time. It's a good group of people to work with. A place where ability and initiative are appreciated and rewarded whether you're an engineer, naval architect, or technician. The right person could do extremely well in that position.
