Any big gun manufacturers, etc. in VA?

What's the employment situation like?

I don't recall any large manufacturers in VA.

Depending on how broad your employement skills are, will depend on what the job market is like. NOVA seems to have more hi-tech jobs, but the cost of living is ridiculous IMO.

A little more info on what your looking for(job fields, housing costs, etc...) would help us come up with some ideas for you.

Beretta is in Accokeek, MD.  FN and HK have corporate offices but no manufacturing.

Overall VA has a good job market but there's still a lot of competition for available work.

The western side of the state (Shenandoah Valley) along the I-81 corridor between Winchester and Roanoke has several state, federal and private sector oppertunities.  I am bias but the generaly rural setting and descent wage to cost of living ratio make it a great place to live.  What is your speciality?

If my wife and I could find good work around Roanoke I believe we'd move down there.  As it is we go down every few months and spend a weeekend just to get away from DC.

Looks like Crystal City ("just outside Alexandria") as for skills, it's guns and porn, any jobs?

Holy hel, I think I found it RIGHT OUTSIDE D.C.!

On the upside, Beretta is right across the water. Too bad I don't have any Beretta skillz.

Man, I think Lexington is a great town.  It has a certain feel to it that I love.  If I had the opportunity to move there I would jump at the chance.

Hey Tweak:

I second the Senandoah Valley area. Easy access to the metro areas for employment and the cost of living is not as high. Hard to give examples not knowing your employment skills. I would suggest checking the employment classifieds like Americas Job Bank, The Washington Post, etc. Any military experience is a plus. If you can pass the check for top secret clearance that would give you an additional $10,000.00 dollars a year in your salary depending on employer. There are a lot of government contractors out here that are always looking for people with strong backgrounds in the IT and engineering fields. If you have any law enforcement experience there are positions in the sheriff's department and other law enforcement agencies.

Good Luck!

Yep, Crystal City is just over the river and right next to the Pentagon.
