| To the liberal paradise that most call Shitcago. Besides getting a drivers license so I can get a FOID card, what kind of stupidity will I need to deal with in order to buy new toys? Any good concealed Carry instructors around Chicago for me to fulfill the required 8 hours? Any stores and ranges within reasonable driving distance? |

Aside from a FOID and waiting period, that's it. 24 hours for long guns, 72 for handguns. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Thanks Marie. I am in the city and I'll have to check out Black Flag. Any good stores that I need to check out? Bad stores to stay away from? |

Their ammo prices seem stupid. Cabelas has decent ammo prices, but since it's in Cook County, there's that gun tax again. Try Gat Guns in Dundee. Huge selection of guns. NOT in Cook County. They have a newer range. I've never shot there, but I hear it's decent. I'm a member at On Target in Crystal Lake. Maxons range is new with a good air handling system, but the range itself is too dark to me. Come on over to IL Carry. It's the defacto gun forum for Illinois. You'll get all sorts of good info over there. There are many folks on that forum who have been heavily involved in our fight for right to carry and other firearms issues in IL. Stay away from Article II in Lombard. Their employees seem to love being surly. Plus, the place is just a mess. The air handling system is crap. You'll be blowing black soot out of your nose after shooting there. Parking is awful. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. It will likely take anywhere from 2-4 months to get your FOID, just be warned. ETA: http://www.blackflagtraining.com/ |

Maxon is a rip off when it comes to gear, but it's the closest to the city.
On the border of illinois and wisconsin (in wisconsin) is bristol range and has a lot of different ranges to choose from. Rifle, pistol, trap, skeet, etc. Check out gat guns and on target in the suburbs too. edit: Marie has good advice, never go to article II, bunch of pricks work there. Cabelas prices are hit or miss, I go there a lot to try and find good deals and their prices are always changing. Also, for FFL services check out Long Arms. Mark is in willowbrook (just take 55 out of the city). He has anderson lowers for $55 (no fee) and does transfers for $20. He is a member here (not sure what his name is), but his number is 708-712-4365 (mark long). |

All info posted has been correct. I think foid apps are caught up and you should get it fairly quick from the stories I've read. So you're going from one liberal paradise to another? J/k Thanks for all the info. I'll have to get a license and FOID app out this week. I moved from Colorado Springs so it wasn't too liberal. People only wanted to smoke their weed and be left alone. I made sure to stay clear of Denver and Boulder. What's the deal with the county and city assault weapon ban? |
