As a northern Illinois resident I would like any referrals to a nice outdoor rifle range . My usual range day now consists of driving up to Wisconsin and hitting McMiller . I would like to find a range with some longer distance and more important , lets you shoot prone . Anyone know of one ?

Check out ASC like mentioned a few posts earlier. If your not looking to commit to a membership come check out Practical Rifle, which is open to the public, and it will give you a chance to check out the club.

Willow Slough is just over the Indiana border in Morocco. There is no range fee. Rifle ranges consist of 50 and 100 yards. There is also a pistol range (10 yards maybe) but you need a CC license that IN recognizes in order to shoot a handgun. Cool little place but it's been a few years since I've been shooting there.

Indiana changed their law and it is OK to transport and shoot handguns at the range without a concealed carry license. I shoot here quite a bit and have had no issues other than it gets crowded in good weather.

The Jackson-Pulaski Indiana DNR range has a 225 yard range.

Buddy of mine just opened a private, by appointment range with steel out to 1600 yards. He is looking to cater to the long range enthusiast but has berms and steel from 200 yards on out. Elevated shooting platform and is ok with prone. He is working on a handgun range and is setup for some trap if you like. It is located about 30 miles northwest of Peoria. I can get you a number if you want to talk to him. Singles are ok, but a group of friends would be better. There is also a nice lodge you can stay at about 100 yards from the range platform.

Thank you but with the silly season in full swing I missed the opportunity . I am very interested in what I've seen from ASC so far . I think it may be just what I'm looking for and am thinking of joining before spring . If you have any future visits planned and don't mind giving a tour , please let me know .
