I know most of you say don't right long winded, logical letters to state reps because they won't read them. Well most of the anti-gunners won't read one sentence of any letters they receive so I say write letters (long or short). At least if some of the fence sitters read it and find it well thought out it may help. I emailed this to every damn rep I could find an address for and I will be spending some coin on a ton of stamps because I am printing this out and mailing it to them directly.

Hello,
My name is XXXXXXXX and I am a concerned citizen in the state of Illinois. I would like to take a minute and tell you my concerns about more gun regulations in the state or country. First, the 2nd Amendment is not about hunting or sporting purposes. It is about giving the citizens the means to keep their country free from tyranny. There is no other interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. It is very specific. Second, I think it is worth noting that you, as our elected officials, represent the voice of your constituents, not your own interests. This is very important to remember and I encourage you to reflect on this and remind other senators and representatives to do the same. The people elected you. You should be voting in favor of what the people want. I think it is painfully obvious that the majority of people in this state feel that more gun regulations are bad for this state. You know, as well as I do, that gun bans, magazines restrictions, etc will have no effect on gun related crimes.  I am angered and saddened that instead of enforcing current laws to their fullest and proposing laws that prevent mentally unstable people from acquiring guns, anti-gun politicians use horrible events to push for feel good laws that have no impact on gun violence to further their political career.

I would like to pose this question to and I would like a response. How is preventing law-abiding citizens from owning semi-automatic sport rifles with standard capacity magazines (yes standard; the rifles were designed around those magazines, therefore they are standard capacity) going to stop gun related crime? We are law-abiding citizens. We do not break laws, therefore we will not use guns in crimes. Evil people seeking to do harm on others will still find ways to obtain firearms and hurt others. These new laws do not prevent that. By the logic that has been shown by some of our congressmen and congresswoman, police officers should not have access to these guns as well. After all, banning them seems to automatically mean that bad people will not use guns anymore. We both know this is not true. Citizens are just as likely, if not more likely, to find themselves in a situation with a bad person with a gun as a police officer. In fact, I know plenty of citizens who are better trained and better able to control a firearm then some police officers I have met. Instead of criminalizing law-abiding citizens and making them register like sex offenders, how about you enforce current gun laws and make punishment for gun related crimes harsher.
Politicians, actors, musicians, etc are allowed to have these weapons used to guard themselves and their families. Some actual have access to fully automatic weapons being used to guard them. How is this fair? My life and my family’s safety are just as important as any of these people. It is very hypocritical.

A common argument I hear from the anti-gun politicians is why would citizens need a 20 or 30 round magazine to defend themselves. They are not military personnel. Well I say, why do police? Why do politicians? Why do actors? The answer is simple. It is their right to defend themselves with whatever means necessary against someone seeking to do them harm. We all have this right. Not just a select few. Again, following this logic is similar to saying why does someone need a car that can go 0-60 mph in 6 seconds? Why does any citizen need a car with a V8 and 300+ HP? They are not race car drivers? After all citizens have speed limits to follow. So a car with excessive horsepower is not needed. Only professional race car drivers need cars like that. They are dangerous in the hands of regular citizens. Cars kill thousands of people a year. The answer is the same as above. Citizens have a right to make these decisions for themselves. It is up to every citizen to reflect on whether or not owning a semi-automatic gun with standard capacity magazines is right for them.

In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I encourage you to stand by the citizens you represent and vote the way the majority of citizens feel and that is to oppose more gun regulations and bans. It is not what the people want. Do not treat us like criminals because the heinous acts of a few people. Gun bans will not prevent gun related crimes from happening and it may help increase the number of crimes. It is the right of the citizens to own semi-automatic firearms with magazines that hold the number of rounds the gun was designed for.

Thank You,
XXXXXXXX
