I have a Springfield MC Operator that is in need of some "dutifying".  I'd like to de-MIM the gun to eliminate any potential part issues, and get a nice 4-4.5LBS trigger trigger on it.  Aesthetics are NOT a concern as this gun is going to spend most of its life in a holster.  I have a drop in barrel bushing in, which fits great.  I also have the slide lock replaced with a wilson unit, and have a MARS ILAP gen 2 on order for a magazine well.  Trijicon HD night sights will be here Tuesday, and I shouldn't have any issues installing those.  I'm looking to have the following done and plan on supplying the parts;

Refinish the frame black
Install/fit hammer, trigger, sear, disconnector
Fit and pin ejector
Tune wilson extractor

I don't think that a higher-cut grip safety is really necessary, but I'm open to any other suggestions you guys may have.

I'm hoping there is somebody close that can do the work relatively quick, and possibly offer a mil/LE discount.

Any hope?

I recommend one of the drop-in Cylinder & Slide sets as a DIY part. I've used it on quite a few 1911s with perfect results.

John from Online Auctions by John recommended me this place for 1911 work and says they're pretty good: Union Arms

I've never used them since I do all of my 1911 work myself (minus surface finish) but he's said people that have used them are very pleased.

Second the better brand FCG not needing fitting, Wilson parts in my case.

Question is do you want the mag well blended perfectly or just put on. If you want it blended then you will probally want the frame refinished. Might as well get the trigger guard under cut at the same time.  Have the smith check the beavertail and sand any sharp areas.  Personally I'd just slap that new mainspring/magwell on and call it a day

Assuming you want the ejector pinned it's the Springer use locktite to keep ejector in place method. This is a good one for the smith to do. I broke a bit doing it causing many hours of cursing.

Nicer production gun.  Might consider melonite or even ion bond.

Voice of reason says just shoot it before doing all that work. Will be much harder to get money out of it once customized work is done

Edit: Springfield Pro Shop has good rates and their turn around is decent

Actually was wondering the same thing for Cutting a Colt slide for Novak front and rear sights, or installing a tenon front in the Chicagoland area...

I've also heard Union Arms mentioned as a good 1911 smith. No first hand experience though.

I'll vouch for them. Mine and a few others that I know use them.

The guy you want is Rich Dittlehauser at Canyon Creek Custom.  He does 1911 work for most of the USPSA shooters that I know in the area.  He is a shooter as well as a smith and will be able to execute whatever you want done.

I had Novak intsall sights on my 1911A1, because I shipped the whole pistol to be sighted with the new sights the shipping was expensive, but the turn around was very fast. They also do other 1911 gunsmithing and refinishing.
