Gravits???

I have not heard that name in a while. He used to have a website. I did not know he was still working. I assume you are asking about HK long gun work.

It's been told to me that Jim built and modified lots of Class 3 HK's at Vollmers when it was in Bloomington back in the 80's and early 90's. That type of work has died down some and a lot less builders are doing that type of work (no kits).

What type of work are you considering? Have you been in contact with Jim yet?

I have never worked with him but his rep, that I am aware of, is good.

If he can build belt fed HK41's from stock 91's I would think he can handle an AK build.

If you have never worked with a custom smith before make sure you take time to spell out your every expectation of the finish and build. The smith will spell out the cost and time frame. Best to make your own work order, listing parts included and what gets done to what (even if you talked about it on the phone). That way there is less chance of miscommunication and discrepancy later.

Remember you are in charge of what you want. He is in charge of how long it takes.

I always add 25% to whatever time frame I'm given.

I had Jim do a FAL build for me about a month ago.  He did a great job, the rifle looks great and runs perfectly.  He finished the work for me in about 2 weeks and his price was very reasonable.  I wouldn't hesitate to give him more work as soon as I have some for him.
