I'm sure many of you have heard this before but i need to know....

'Vince' is an old buddy at work who started at the job just a few days after i did which was back in 1983.
His father passed away 9 years ago, now his mom is sick so she handed over to him his dad's home defense gun.  Vince says it's a "black Smith & Wesson snub nose 38" that his dad bought new in the late 1980s.
Mrs. Vince wants that gun "OUT OF THE HOUSE ASAP!!!" Vince doesn't want it either, Vince doesn't have nor want an IL. FOID.
Like the good friend that I am I will free of charger take the gun off his hands But! It must be done lawfuly.
-How do we transfer this like new handgun from a non-FOID holder to a me?
BTW: I do posses a valid FOID.

Thanks for your time..

Does Mrs. Vince have a FOID?  If so, Mrs. Vince to you FTF with proper paperwork.  Vince with no FOID to you?  I think you'll need to get FFL involved.

Vince is committing a felony. Im not sure of a way to transfer a gun like that.

If I were you I would just take it off his hands without any paperwork involved.

The correct way to do it would for you and he to go to a gunshop and ask them to do a transfer to you. You will have to pay a transfer fee and wait the waiting period.

Vince will transfer the gun to the FFL. They will transfer it to you after you fill out the 4473, and wait the 3 days. The FFL can buy guns from non-foid card holders. We as lowly Illinois peons can not.

Maxon's in Desplaines is familiar with this process but you may want to call 1st.
