Cabella's has been helping in the fight for gun rights in IL / Crook County. I have no problem shopping there.

Cabela's is a thorn in the side of Daley and others who try to drive every gun store in Cook out of business.  You'll certainly get friendlier service at Cabela's and people who won't act like their doing you a favor by selling you a gun.

Who's got the better price in the end?  I'm all for sticking it to the "man", but I'm also cheap.

Depends on what you're looking for.  GAT does charge an extra 3% for using a credit card on gun purchases.  That certainly squares the sales tax difference.  Use the Cabela's reward card (not their credit card) and get 2% back to use on other purchases.

I think it took a lot of guts for Cabela's to put a store there.  Sure there are potential sales, but they had to factor in potential legal bills too.

I buy stuff from them whenever I can.

Do you sell ar15s, ak47s, etc to Cook County residents?

Do you let people that live in Chicago handle hand guns?

I always find it interesting to see how the gun stores view these issues.

I was at a gun store with a friend who lives in Chicago and when he showed them his FOID, they would not let him touch handguns.

They just won't get any buisness from Chicago residents then. Its not against the law to purchase a handgun if your a Chicago resident, you just can't keep them there. I used to live in Cook but I don't now. I still goto a gun shop in that I've been going to for years and when you purchase a firearm there they make you sign a paper saying you understand that handguns can't be brought into Chicago and that "assualt weapons" are illegal in cook county. It has other statements as well that you initial and then sign at the end. This covers the stores ass even though its moronic that I need to fill it out because of Chicago itself. I would never buy a gun at a shop that would'nt let me handle certain type of firearms.

I agree with you, I am just asking how Megasports treats these issues.

The gun store that would not let my Chicago friend handle a handgun was Galyan's, now Dick's in Lombard.  I have not been in the store since, but I hear they no longer sell handguns.

What gun shop are you using that will sell to Cook and Chicago residents.  If you do not want to post the name of the store, send me an IM.  I have friends that could use their services.

Dick's is very anti-gun.  Gaylan's had a full counter of Glocks, Sigs, HK's, etc.  Dick's has mostly, for the lack of a better word, FUDD guns.  No handguns, no AR's or even Mini 14's.

That is why I have never stepped foot in a Dick's store.  The name is fitting.

I found some great deals when it was Galyan's.  I still have four Browning Gold Hunter shotguns that I bought on clearance for a little over $400!  I have used one of them and the others are still new in the box.  These were $900 dollar guns at the time.

IIRC Galyans wanted to open in a new mall being built in Glenview a few years ago.

Everything was going fine until the NIMBY moms in the adjoining new development found out they sold <gasp> TEH GUNZ!!!

They asked Galyans to not sell them at that location and corporate replied that there was a customer expectation from store to store, and they wouldn't refuse to carry a profitable and legal line of products simply because some bimbo had her panties in a twist.

Push came to shove and Galyans said AMFYOYO and abandoned their plans to occupy a cornerstone store.

And of course the true irony in all of this?

The development in question was sits on the site of the former Glenview NAS - where they used to house nuclear capable aircraft back in the cold war era.

Total bullshit - but then again Glenview seems to have become the roosting point for most of the chicken like liberals who flee Chicago.

The site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station, locate din the heart of the Village of Glenview, has been transformed.

Gone are 1 million cubic yards of concrete, 1.5 miles of runways and 108 U.S. Navy buildings. In their place is The Glen, a 1,121 acre mixed-use district, with new homes, offices, and retail space. Public amenities include Lake Glenview, Park Center, Gallery Park, Air Station Prairie, two golf courses, and a Metra station.

To redevelop the air station and integrate it into the rest of Glenview, the Village coordinated a public process to create a reuse plan that was completed in 1995 and updated into a master plan in 1998. The Village then assumed the role of Master Developer, building main stem roadways and utilities and preparing the land for sale.

With 95% of the land now sold, leased or under contract, construction will continue for the next several seasons. By providing and updating this website, the Village hopes to share the latest information on the projects and progress at The Glen.

The Gallyns in Schuamberg went to court with Schaumberg for not allowing them to sell handguns. Schaumberg won out.

Galyns used to be a store like REI where the employees knew their stuff whether it be camping, backpacking, climbing, or guns. Now that Dick's bought them out the majority of the stores have kids working them that know nothing of the outdoors. The guys at the Schaumberg Dick's gun counter know there stuff and most of them have been there since it was Gallyns.
