This has got to take the cake................

Daley noted that the U.S. Supreme Court building and Congress are in a security bubble with armed guards everywhere and metal detectors galore.

"Those who are rich and those who are in power always feel safe. Those who do not have the power do not feel safe. And that's what they're saying," Daley said.

"You cannot carry a gun into a federal building. You cannot carry a gun into a federal court. So, they're setting themselves aside. They're saying to the rest of America that the answer to all of the constitutional issues is that we can carry guns. I just don't understand how they came to this thinking. I'm very, very disappointed."

These people (liberals) live in some parallel universe where their ends justify their means. It's beyond maddening to listen to the hypocrisy of a politician surrounded by armed guards 24/7 talk about gun control.

Letter to the editor on the way:

In your story this evening “Outraged Daley vows to defend Chicago gun law “, Mayor Daley claims “The Supreme Court and Congress have no obligation to keep our country safe. It falls on the backs of mayors and local officials.”  An interesting perspective, given that governments hide behind other court decisions like South v. Maryland (1856) and at least 16 others that state that the police bear "no affirmative duty" to protect the citizen as an individual, and cannot be held liable for any failure to do so.

Later, the Mayor says “Those who are rich and those who are in power always feel safe.”  Daley and the other politicians who call for “gun control” for the ordinary citizen must feel very safe, being protected not only by their own concealed weapons (carried legally as "conservators of the peace" in Illinois), their 24/7 armed details, but by immunity from lawsuits when citizens wind up victimized by their actions which only serve to disarm the law abiding citizen, and manage virtually no effect against criminals using guns.

A Pretty secure position in my opinion.

I was discussing this with a co-worker, and he summed it up nicely as to why Mayor Daley is throwing a fit:

"Daley has never had to bow down to anyone before, usually he is calling the shots.  I think this is less about gun control to him and more about being put over a barrel and being forced to do something."

I thought that was an excellent analysis!

"Does this lead to everyone having a gun in our society?" Daley asked while speaking at a Navy Pier event. "If they [the Supreme Court] think that's the answer, then they're greatly mistaken. Then why don't we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West, you have a gun and I have a gun, and we'll settle it in the streets if that's they're thinking."
OMG what time line is that jackass stuck in?

"We think we're such an improved society," he added. "The rest of the world is laughing at us."
Mabey the power hungry leaders in the world but the disarmed citizens are cheering for us.

In railing against the Supreme Court ruling, Daley stressed the danger of private gun ownership, especially for the children of gun owners.

"We've shown time and time again how many children have been killed in their homes by guns," he said. "Parents are away, they get the gun. Parents are away, the child takes the gun, runs out in the street and has an argument, comes back and shoots somebody."

This SOB is so stuck up his own ass his one tracked mind keeps bringing up the children like we all know he and other antis love to do. Someone should of yelled back at his speech that if gun bans worked then why are there so many gangbangin' shootings in his very own city? JACKASS!!!

This is spot on. It's less about the guns and more about a man, who has lived his entire life shielded by and provided for by the elite of Chicago Government. I think if Daley thought he could win, he would run for POTUS. Daley does not like to answer to anyone and with the DC ban over-turned, he knows it is only a matter of time before he will have to answer to the people he hates the most, and not only answer, but submit to the will of gun owners.

It will be interesting to see how Daley, the Chicago PD and ISP conduct themselves once the IL bans are over turned.

I just heard this monring on the radio about a study that was done on personal freedoms and restrictions in 37 major cities in the U.S. and Chicago came in dead last, i.e. most restrictive on civil rights and the most laws on the books for fines, restictions, etc.  The analysis (honest to God, this was from the study) was that Chicago "Treats its citizens like children, and the restrictions can be found in large part to be a driect result of Mayor Daley."

Yeah, tell us something we don't know!
