can anyone help - or direct me to rules on the sales of firearms (in state and out of state).

I need some $$ for home repairs and am considering selling one or two rifles and a pistol - but wanted to make sure I was not getting myself into hot wather - what with all the local rules ect.

My question is - what do I need to do for Rifle - instate / out of state

For pistol - in state / out of state.

Thanks!

ETA - I mean individual to individual.

Out-of-state can only be done through an FFL, no exceptions. Handguns can only be transferred through a dealer in one's home state, while long guns can be transferred in any state - subject to state laws. In IL, FFL transfers of long guns are restricted to residents of surrounding states.

For FTF within IL (to other IL residents), you need to keep a bill of sale with the transferor and transferee names, FOID #'s, date, and firearm info (type, caliber, serno). You must also abide by IL waiting period law (24hr long gun, 72hr handgun), but the waiting periods take effect upon "application to purchase" - which I've always been told is interpreted as and have seen interpreted as the time at which the buyer and seller form the agreement to make the sale.

Walkure's got it.  As a reminder, for instate FTF, turn your FOID over and read the back.

Yeah.  I have the same question.  Some of us are always in the market for more firearms.
