Oh helllll....

I just got my bonus check. I think I'll show up with a stack of crisp bills and give cash for them instead.

Some good guns are going to go to waste though and that's a shame.

Only if it were tat easy.

Any guns worth anything will end up in the homes of the brass. What BS these buybacks are.

How can they prevent it from being used at a gunshop?

Here is another article with a useful phone number to get the list of drop off points...

Chicago again to offer gun-buyback program

Drop-off sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For information about locations, call (312) 744-5000.

I'll probably go to St. Sabina's because I went there last year and already have the directions printed out. I'll say hi to "Father Mike" for y'all.

I attended a meeting Tuesday night and listened to a guy talking about this.  He has a nice collection of old Japanese rifles from WWII that have an estimated value of $10 each to turn in for $100 each.  He is going to use the proceeds to have a BBQ for the club.

A friend of mine is turning in a $40 Raven Arms .25 auto and am old, rusty revolver that had been re barreled with a pair of vice grips. Some family members gave him the guns. I wouldnt pay $20 for both of them.

I have an old rusted .25 acp I'll be taking in to a church at 9600 S. Vincennes. I used to live in the Morgan Park area, so I know I can find it.

Get there early, before the cards run out.

I plan on buying ammo :-)

I wonder how many of those 100.00 cards are gonna get pocketed by "volunteers" at these churches.

Did they own the gun originally?  How can they buy it back?

If I lived up there, I'd be abusing the shit outta this.  For one, I'd try to volunteer and I'd probably keep 20% of any gift cards I got asked to hand out for myself, or if that didn't work, I'd go to Centerfire Syetems and get some of those German Gew 88s for $8 and make $90 on them.

The volunteers just do crowd control......the people taking the guns and handing out the cards were all plainclothes cops. The female ones were pretty cute, too.

Just got back from Chicago.....the cops seemed sorta amused when I handed them seven used up revolvers and a rifle and shotgun but I got my cards. I was at St. Sabina's at 1100...about 20 people in line when I got there. Pretty much in and out in 20 minutes. They didn't look like they had all that many rifles this time, mostly well abused .22s and a SKS. They've definitely gotten better about how they administer it, last year I had to wait in line nearly an hour to get my rainchecks and then had to go back next week.  Once I get them consolidated I'm going shopping for a LCD TV.....then I can start hunting for next year's candidates.

100.00 for my POS .25acp that I interited from my mom'd deceased BF.
His dad was a CPD.......prolly his throwdown ;-)

I plan on hitting Gander/Joliet tomm. for ammo :)

Went to 96th /Vincennes.......passed by my old HS.

Line was long. Mostly African Amer. Mostly long guns.
Passed the time taking to two vets.. one WW2 one Vietnam.
90 minute wait.

Local gunshop guy bought in 35 longarms.......prolly for the Chmpaign County guys.......yes 35 !!!!!!!!!!

How did they react to him rolling up with 35 rifles?  I think I'll shoot for 10-15 guns for next year's turn in unless I get the opportunity to make a group buy.

We had one of the buy back deals years ago. I turned in a broken.410 with bent barell for $100 cash.

Then called the Open line in the newspaper and thanked them for putting it on , and that I was going to put the $100 towards the purchase of an ASSAULT RIFLE

I applaud your purity but I'll sell them all the junk I can find to haul up there..I cannot resist separating the fools from thier money. If it makes you fel better you can take the gift cards and buy a decent gun with them.

I turned in a bunch of scrap metal today - have to head back next Saturday for the gift cards.

They were at just over 100 guns turned in when I stopped by.  I didn't get a decent look at the "Goodie-Table" but it seemed like a lot of revolvers and a few shotguns.  I was the only person dropping stuff off when I was there.  It was a little awkward waiting for everything to get checked but it went pretty smoothly.  Easiest cash I've made in a while

The Fox news at 9 said 5000+ last night.  That "journalist" byron harlon or whatever was giddy and could barely stifle a grin.   He probably thinks this made a difference.  I remember after the April 2006 buyback some felon's kid shot himself or his brother like two days later with the gun the criminal didn't turn in.

They showed the guns, 700+ were "replicas" and most long guns were fudd junk, one shotgun had no barrel that I saw.

I saw one underfolder AK, a couple of TEc-9s and thats about it.  Of course the "mainstream" media called them all assault weapons...

BTW tec-9 is such junk.

Almost 6,000 handguns and assault weapons were turned over to Chicago police Saturday in exchange for $100 debit cards, officials said.

I see the anti's are trumping this up as another success. The last thing we need is more success story's on thier side. I would have been a whole lot happier today if instead of 5000+ guns being voluntarily handed over. We instead saw  empty table's. I bet a whole lot of crook's are chuckling today knowing that thier potential victem's are unable to defend themselve's. FWIW. Have you all noticed. There is alway's an AK and a tech nine at these media event's? Maybe they keep a couple on hand just to display to the media? So they can say "See we got more of those evil spray from the hip killing machine's off the street". Now help us pass another law. One good thing is this little buy back cost the anti's a 1/2 million. Less money to spend on more damaging agenda's.

From what I saw yesterday they collected both junk and some nice collector stuff. I was shocked to see that the Chicago police officer that took my junk thought that a black powder pistol I took in WAS A BB GUN!!! All I can say is that my jaw dropped to the floor! I Had him read off the letters on the side of the gun that read .45 CALIBER BLACKPOWDER ONLY. He then said "Ok no problem". I almost cried when I saw a pre war colt 1911 in prestine condition. I did not see anything that they would consider an "assult weapon", all those tec 9's and the poly ak are guns they have confiscated in the past from gangbangers/criminals. When I walked in they looked very happy to see me (me being hispanic they probably thought I would surrender some nice stuff), not too happy when they saw what I had. They know their sucess is based on people like us who gave the JUNK.

Whats funny is these have nothing to do with getting guns off the street. It has to do with the gun grabbers getting media attention to further their agenda. If I had a rusted out POS gun that I was going to throw away I might do it as it would be like getting paid for throwing your trash away. If I had a perfect working order gun that was worth $50,$30,$20 or less I would'nt dare give it to these people.

Did anyone find out if anyone got involved about this being illegal? Bringing guns downtown and some being "Assualt Weapons"? I'm sure the Blech-9 and the AK were there before they even opened the tables.

From the Trib article:

Last December, in a similar buyback program, police netted about 1,500 guns from 15 churches. About 3,000 guns were collected in April 2006.

The December buy-back paid only $50, which is why they got so many less. I doubt they'll go below $100 again.

Ya gotta get there early....I arrived at 1100 (which was later than I had intended) and St Sabina's still had plenty of $100 cards (but were out of $10 air gun cards), most likely they will be out of cards by noon most places.

They would trumpet it as a success if they got 100 guns. The only effect "buybacks" have is to get rid of all the junk guns in the area as people can get paid for something that they otherwise couldn't give away. 90% of what they get is junk, 5% decent guns given up by people who either don't know how or are unable to sell them legally, and maybe 5% is the sort of stuff they really want. Someone came in with a AR-15 last April when I was there, they got real excited when they saw it because they weren't getting that sort of stuff. It's more likely that some criminals are chuckling because they sent in some chump with weapons they used to murder someone and Chicago paid them to dispose of the evidence.

Most big-city cops are not gun people and actually know very little about them. At the April buyback I had to help one of them find the maker on some of them so he could process them so that he could get to me faster. It was pretty comical watching him looking all over a store-branded Mossberg .22 rifle (including down the bore) asking it "Who made you?" They seemed to be both amused and annoyed when I showed up yesterday with 9 busted weapons....they kept emphasizing the number nine as they passed me down the line to the lady with the cards.

I had with me a printout of the .pdf XmikeX found with the details of the buyback and Mapquest directions for St. Sabina's, my destination which I was sticking to like glue. I am confident I would not have been busted by the CPD if I got pulled over...the bad PR would have ruined everything for them. They do get small numbers of "assault weapons"...at the April Buyback the guy two behind me in line had a pre-ban AR-15 someone had stashed in the crawlspace under his house. This year a guy in line with me had a SKS that was in fairly good shape.
