I was going to be in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop into Rguns in Carpentersville for ammo and a look see on their AK kits. Any problems with these folks? Thanks in advance. |
It wasn't any kind of blow-up or thieving or anything like that. They were discussed often due to various issues pertaining to customer service and charging for things not in stock with no firm shipping date, and then becoming hostile and abusive to members. Hit the Archive from around 2003 and you will find enough reading to keep you busy for hours. |

I just picked up two transfers from them earlier this week, along with one of their Mosin 91/30's (which they apparently still have a good stock of -- including the carbine versions -- because they imported something like 14,000 themselves, straight from the Ukraine, IIRC). FWIW, the two guys I dealt with in the office were professional and helpful, and I did not feel like I was getting the brush off. |

I got the DPMS M4 a few months ago (about an hour drive) and all was well. The guy there when I bought it was cool. The guy there after the waiting period acted like I was really bothering him by walking in the store to pick up what I already paid for. Good deals, lots' of stuff. I'm used to gun-shop-with-attitude so it doesn't bother me. |
Silas Do you have an opinion about the import marking on their Mosins. I'll give you mine.... IT"S FRICKING ATTROCIOUS. The ones I have seen have been scarred across the left rear side of the receiver. While the price may be right, I hate to see nice firearms defaced like that. I'm sure it is a cost saving decision to locate the mark there but geeeeze. It makes the recent Century scribing seem modest. To the plus side, milsurp firearms are being imported into IL. I feel like I will go to that shop and buy something just to suport that. Even of it's not a mosin..... come to think of it I do need an M38... JR |
+1 on that. $105 for a stripped lower. The guy that helped me when I was there was nice enough. I always find it strange that when you walk into the store, there has never been any customers or anyone behind the counter. You stand there for a while and then someone comes out. Their prices seem pretty good for a local shop, too. Mike F |
I've found this to be the case always. I think the vast majority of their business is mail order, and they are constantly getting stuff ready for the UPS guy. If it's in stock, my experience has been, that they ship very quickly. |
Mu experience too. It is frustrating when you walk in there, money in hand, and the staff decides to ignore you and go about their business for another 10 minutes, even when you tell them you want to buy something. The blond guy who wears the ball cap is real nice, can't remeber his name but we actually shot the bull when he went on a smoke break once. The other guys who work there seem like it is kind of a bother when you come in to purchase something, unless they think you are ex-mil and then they give you all sorts of free calendars and coozies (happend when I went in the witha Marine friend of mine). |
I need some more of those Beer Cozies. Have 2 that I use frequently when drinking the good stuff --- Old Style. ![]() Need 2 more for guests. |

I was there recently and walked out giving the guy the finger. What an ass. I ended up with a call to DPMS who was very concerned over the fact that RGUNS was selling their own "RGUNS" lowers, and refusing to sell the DPMS ones they had in stock to customer, and telling customers that their "RGUNS" lowers were manufactured by DPMS, which accoding to DPMS they ARE NOT. |
They told me they were made by the same folks that made DPMS lowers, not DPMS. I dont know what they told you, but thats what they told me. Anyways, how was the guy an ass? For the price they are asking, I'm going to pick up a few of their lowers. Scott |
| About a year and a half ago I was going up (29?) on my way to the car museum in Volo and all of a sudden I look over and see the RGUNS storefront and thought "Holy shit thats odd, I should stop in there!" but then I remembered people on arfcom said they were kinda assholes so I kept cruising north. Maybe if they werent such jerks more people would do business with them. |
Who makes DPMS's lowers anyway? Is it Continental like most every one else? |
Not sure, I didnt ask. I'm prolly going to go in there and order up a few of their lowers though. They looked really nice and clean, and the logo was really subtle. Scott |
It will probably be a while before I order some, but trust me you won't be disappointed if you order a few. Quality wise, they are just as good as any of the big-namers. Forged for sure, and all the LVL3 HA mil-spec finish you could ask for. |
I paid $105 for mine. Mike F |

I called them a while ago about an ar pistol lower. The guy who took my call said he might be able to order it for about $1200.00 |
i went in there with my friend and he looked right at the guy and said" i want to buy 2 dpms m-4's with the quad rails." 900 bucks a piece. not a bad price, but the guy walked away, and we sat for 15 minutes. think he was getting the forms to fill out... nope. he went home. and we found this out after the guy in the ball cap told us. i was surprised to see that they are doing so good that they will turn down 2000$. ![]() and.... acordding to them, if it isnt DPMS, its CRAP!!! and that COLT is the worst manufacture of all. but go and ask if they have any DPMS mags, and all they carry is colt!!! ![]() i think that they are really a$$holes, will i buy from them.... probably just to suport the importing into illinois, and they do have pretty good prices. the only downside is that its also supporting them. just my thoughts, brian |
Been in there a few times with pretty similar results. Went in there one time with a friend. The guy working was actually nice, but when my buddy mentioned his brother had a Bushmaster, he went on about how Bushmaster was crap and DPMS was the best thing since sliced bread. Pretty obvious when all they have is DPMS. The last time I was in there I was looking for some AK mags & a LULA loader. Was thoroughly ignored for about 15 - 20 minutes, then found out they didn't have either in stock They do have good prices on some things, but the service there is usually terrible. |

When I usually go there, I just ask someone to help, and they do just that. Never had a problem with that system. Regardless, I'm not saying what happened to you guys didnt happen, and whether its right or wrong, but after seeing some of the people that go into gunstores, the shit they spew, and the time they basically waste, I can understand how a gunstore owner or employee might not have the desire to sit around and BS. I guess just like a lot of businesses, they deal with alot of crap. Does that justify anything? Who knows. All I know is...if I go in there and ask for something, I get it. Thats all I really care about. Once you get to know the guys, or they start to recognize you, its a whole new ball game. They DO appreciate repeat customers, and they truly are a good group of guys, all the way up and down the chain. |
| I have ordered from them over the phone, but never been in the store.I never had any problems with them and they were really helpful in getting me what I wanted(and at a good price). The local gun shop here would seem snobby to someone who has never been there, but like the other guy said, once they see you are a repeat customer it is a whole new ballgame then. |
| I was there today and asked Roger himself who made those lowers, and he said he only knew it was the same company that makes them for DPMS. He isn't exactly the most sociable gun store owner and he could learn alot from Don Beltrame in that regard. He has great prices, and the younger guys who work there a pretty nice. |
