I requested and got my union, AFSCME Local 3653 to donate $500 to the ISRA.  WE did so several years ago, and passed it again tonight.  Keep in mind our union seems to endorse leftist candidates only.  We shook up the higher ranking union officials last time we did this.  I was expecting a fight this time.  I was shocked.  The vote passed 21-0 our way.  I couldn't believe it.  Our local is made up of prison workers; primarily officers.
There were several members who do not own guns that voted in favor of the vote on the principle that citizens should have the right to arm themselves if they so choose.  Do not let the media fool you.  All of us "dumb ol' prison guards" aren't all that bad.  We deal with the bad guys everyday, and know that law abiding citizens only make our job easier.
I am very happy with the way things went.

I wish my UAW local wasn't just a bunch of sheep.  I have to keep my union card in a separate section of my wallet so my NRA card doesn't kick its ass.

Way to go DST! You are making a difference. We can best affect the political process by winning the "hearts and minds" of our fellow voters. That way, it isn't just gun owners supporting/opposing gun legislation, it's all Americans voting for freedom whether they participate in the activity or not. Keep up the good work.

On a side note, it's got to be a very tough job being a prison guard. I hope the pay you well.

That is priceless!

The problem is that many locals will tell their membership that they cannot donate to the ISRA.  Bull.  Make sure you have a quoram, and make sure you have the votes and make the motion.  They cannot go against it if the membership agrees.

Another thing they probably won't bother to tell you is that they can't force you to pay dues beyond the costs of collective bargaining.

My gun dealer was a janitor at the schools, and his local did this due to the gun issue. The union was NOT happy about it.
