I have been reloading for a few years now in TX and have wanted to ask if Illinois has any restrictions on the purchase of reloading components?  Is there a limitation on how much powder or primers you can have?  Do you have to show your FOID before buying components?

Thanks,

Technically  , an FOID is only required for manufactured ammo and firearms. Most FFLs will check to see if you have one (hold it up so they can see) just as a CYA, but there's no recordkeeping (as long as you're not buying more than an 8lb. keg of FFFg.)

Check here for the text of the IL FOID act.

If you just want to even touch a firearm you have to show your FOID card.  I live near WI and get my primers up there since they are about 15% cheaper than any IL store near me.  They got more respectable gun laws.  If they allowed CCW I would have to move.

I buy most of components online, but the only time I get asked for my foid is when I buy at Gander Mountain.  As far as I know there are no limits to amounst of components.  If there are, I'm probably well over then.

Once a shell is reloaded it is then considered ammunition..then you must have a valid FOID to possess the ammunition.

Thought I read one time that you could only store 32 or 36 pounds of smokeless, But I really don't remember??? Like stated above Foid is not needed for components.

I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on tv....Most of the time the ordinances of whatever community you live in would dictate how much powder you can legally have in you possesion. If no such ordinance exists then I believe that the ordinance of the county or state would then come into play.

You are correct.
