Im in Northern IL for Christmas (DeKalb) and was wondering if their are any gunshops around here that I should check out?  Im specifically looking at buying some reloading components.  Surplus powder without the hazmat and shipping would be nice.

Is Gander Mtn. any good?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Gander Mountain in Geneva is probably your best bet...unless there is one closer. I frequently pick up my reloading stuff there at least powder and primer wise. Most times I pickup bullets etc online....Good luck...

If either of you guys stop by Gander Mountain, let me know what the prices are like for powder and what they carry.  I was just getting started loading the last time I was there and thus didn't pick up any.

Their primers are pretty pricey, $2.50 or so per hundred.

Was at Gander Mountain in Kenosha.  Primer prices were about $2.59 - $2.79 / 100.  Still much cheaper than Bass Pro @ $3.39 or more.  That and they didn't have any.  Did pick up a 4 lb of Red dot at Bass for $50.

Try these people .  They come to the larger gun clubs starting in March. You call in and they deliver your order to the clubs where you pick it up. NO hasmat charges and they have up to 25# drums of the better powders.

St. Charles gun club is not that far from Dekalb.

To hell with Gander Mountain, Mosher Gun Shop is right in Dekalb near the corner of Route 23 and Keslinger.  www.moshergunshop.com

They have all sorts of AKs and EBRs plus a good selection of C&R.

recobs target shop is real good. Just call them about a week ahead and place your order. I don't think they drive down with a truck full of stuff, only what people order in advance. They cater to the clays shooter but have a big selection of powders.  I think they are somewhere in North Illinois every other month. I just got a 25 lb keg from them on the 16th..

A lot of shotgun powders work great for pistol as well.  I recall a number of the ones I've used thus far advertised for both.

I just picked up 8 lbs of WC-844 and 8 more of WC-846.  I wish I'd ordered more now!
