Well I did eventually make it out to Buffalo range on Sunday, but unfortunately due to a family matter was not able to get there at the planned 0900 timeframe. My son (16) and I got there around 1230 and it seemed that alot of folks may have already been there and gone. But hell we shot anyway..... We were set up right there at AR15.com sign which dissappeared shortly after we got set up at the plinking pit!
My new AR15 build shot fairly well considering it was her first time out in public. She started out a bit shy though....It seemed almost every other shot I had to recharge her again. But the jitters cleared up pretty good as she digested more ammo. I brought a bunch different types of ammo for her first feeding...Black Hills, Winchester, Wolf, Remington....
She gobbled it all up with no issues except for the Wolf stuff....She choked on and off with it and got quite perturbed at us.  <_< We also noted that she seemed to tense up with a full 30 round mag. Not sure why, but we were hand loading them as I have not yet received my Lula loader. We dropped the round count to 25 and she seemed fine. Pretty danged accurate with the iron sights and spot on with a little Tacpoint/Hakko I that one of the guys next to me allowed me to try out.
We also shot for the first time my new Mosin M91/30...Yeeeeoooowwwww......that was my son's reaction to his first shot. We prolly shot only about 30 rounds each cause that baby will tear your shoulder out....
Nice place, nice day....and as Ahhhnald said in the Terminator...."I'll be back!!!

Congrats!

I think I was back eating woodbutcher's chili with likebuddha (spelling?) and SAK at 12:30.

I went up to the shotgun stage of the tactical match right after that and stayed up there until just after 2:00 or so.

Sounds like you had fun

I was about 2 tables to your right till about 1:15, then I ate and hit the shotgun course.  Glad you had a good time.  We will try to get the logistics down for getting everyone together, so we know who is who.

I feel kinda weird walking up to strangers  and asking "Who are you?"   to everyone  with an  AR.

But sometimes ya got to do it,  I have not been slugged yet.

Mack give a yell next time your going out,  I have met a few folks that way.

woodbutcher223308 you should never feel wierd, I happen to know who you were by the pot of chille you had on the stove...!

I have found that the real AR15.COM members tend to be very cool and freindly at the range.

I have also noticed that if you look around you will see some people also looking around,  I was one of those, then I started to notice some of the members by there traits and equipment... pot of chille, trunk full of really nice mags for sale (thanks handyandy I will get more next time), driving a Neon, WIU hat, just kidding.

All it takes is a "hello, are you an AR15.com Member?" to start the conversation!

I would have liked to try your chille, everyone has said it is the best, but with an hour and a half ride and not having ate that day I could not trust my self to make it home in one piece!

Maybe next time I will bring some of my chille and we could compare?

Mack69 sorry for highjacking your thead...

We have to start bringing out something a little different also. I was the one with the black AR with a brass catcher bag. Oh, wait, I mean I was the one with the little revolver (Raging Bull .454) and the innocent looking 1895 Marlin(.45-70) trying to make some noise. Later I got out the TC Contender (.45-70), the .357 Colt Trooper, and the P08 Luger.

Well you got a couple looks when you touched off that Marlin!

Well it worked. I am just glad you did not have an AR50. How hot did you load those things?

The Reloading Manuals (Hornady, Speer, etc.) have a special section for guns like that. The loads are pressure tested for that action only. The warnings read something like 'DO NOT use in Trap Door Springfields or Original 1895 lever actions as serious damage can and will be inflicted on gun and shooter alike!'. And after 20 years or more of reloading the only problem I have is trying to wipe that silly grin of my face after I drop the hammer!

I'd be up to shoot that thing the next time.  That black guy that came with NPD (sorry, I don't know his name) sure was tamed by your .454 Casull!

I'd love to experience some big bores! I did shoot a .45-70 last month but commercial loads are weak.

That .45-70 Thompson Contender pistol was something else

Thanks for letting me shoot it.
