After NUMEROUS calls to the IL-EPA offices in LaSalle County, Rockfod and Sprinngfield, I found out some rather intresting info about Buffalo Range.

Distilled to the important parts, I have thus to report.

As of November 30thm the range is cleared to re-open. BR, however must make allowances for some EPA work that will be ongoing thru the winter.

The info above comes straight from the agency charged with inspecting IL-EPA cleanups. According to the gent I spoke to, a meeting between all concerned parties took place at BR  yesterday.

The BR answering machine still says "CLOSED".

If someone lives near there can you PLEASE drive over and get ahold of a live person.

Radium Dial Co is elsewhere in Ottowa and is a Federal EPA project, IIRC.

BR  has been closed since April because of an Illinois EPA clean-up on an old (& potentially toxic) landfill next door which accepted a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from industrial and municipal sources. Waste included paint and plating sludges, organic solvents and cyanide. according to IL-EPA.

IL_EPA was concerned about gunfire endangering workers, so BR agreed to close for the duration of the cleanup.
Nov 30th is when they were to be permitted to reopen the gun range.

Ok , I have to get back there , been workng 10 hr days, ..I have free time after work, I hope someone will be there about 5 pm.

The last I heard was they needed to lay the black dirt,  I have not followed up . ...See above, Gotta a little girl too.

SO, if I dont get shot or hit a deer , or blown up...heh heh .  I will post my finding.

Edit ... What is the best way to go in asking?    I'm thinking ...gee let me knok on their freaking door,  Yelling ATF open up for me.  I dont have an atv to trailor in , I guess I go right up to the house and throw cash at them, I dont want my dogs shot again, ...cost me $800. last time they were shot.      Anyone have a throw a way dog?

Nah, I will try the open up please route.

Ps part 2. Looks like the the pit bulls that killed my in-laws dogs are dead,  I think was when I was in Texas.  Thanks for the support.

Answering machine still says no.

This is bordering upon idiocy. If they opened this weekend, they'd easily be jam packed both days
At $20 per adult shooter, they'd rake in a few grand.

We need recon.........

PS. IL-EPA, when asked about compensation for the business lost, said BR was making some cash selling clean dirt  "fill".  for the cleanup and re-capping. Plus, the old landfill is owned by the mother of the woman who operates BR. So it's not exactly a case of the Evil EPA closing an innocent business, like we all asumed. The landfill improperly accepted chemical waste, and IL-EPA caught up with them, which explains why the terms of the Consent Order that closed BR were rather draconian.

Has anyone thought about maybe seeing if they'd be interested in being bought out????

Maybe we could get some folks from AR15.com together and do this?

Not sure if it would be worth the hassle but it would be nice to have a decent N. Illinois range...

I'm a real estate agent and if folks wanted to get together and do this, I could help with it.

I'll do a Blastfest in the cold. Hell, maybe if we were charming, we could rent the place out to ourselves before they open. Maybe if we did a $50 per guy for all day for the privledge of having the range to ourselves.

I really wouldn't mind heading down to BR. I have been down there twice riding my KX 250 in the woods out back but both those times were this summer when they were closed. Tell you the truth, in my 18 years I have only been on an actual range about once. Doesn't matter though, our family farm in NW IL in on a hill with a 15 foot drop into our field that runs about 625 yards back to a defunct railroad. We also have a feeder canal on our left so my dad and I never had the urge to go to a range. Maybe I'll have to pack my EVIL rifles in with the bike when I head down there next springWIZZO

again cook county is not the problem, you can live in cook county and have all the evil black rifles you want, just not inside  chicago
